@cwebber if this is slop, then it is getting unbelievably hard to discern the difference.
Is there a San Fransiaco version of the New Yorker that this could be from?

@corycarson @gsuberland I must be ootl, what does this idiom mean?
@screwlisp @corycarson @gsuberland ah ok, I thought it might be related to all those foam mattress companies. I don't see free *used* mattresses in the wild..
@alice i'm not sure what kind of scam it was but I kept getting spammed with pictures of "fedichick" with links at the bottom.
@thomasfuchs who is DHH? Some kind of anti-Ed Zitron?
@BrodieOnLinux Did you mention why it is bananas? I didn't get it.
@feld @brettm I don't think you understand the security problems in Xorg either
@feld @brettm typewriters don't have security vulnerabilities iirc
@BrodieOnLinux Again I am OOTL, but based on the fact that he argued about the ownership she suggested, and because the email was a public forum, I'm not convinced that he was writing in good faith. I also think she escalated. Either way, to me everyone sucks here, and without having any more context, I'm not sure why your video seems to take only one side in the argument.
@BrodieOnLinux I'm normally a fan of your videos, but as someone OOTL, it comes across as choosing sides in a conflict where both sides are behaving badly. I am sympathetic with this Lina person not appreciating being pinged in a public mailing list with a request that could have started out privately. And when he argued with her request for authorship of specific patches after saying he was happy to do it her way, it goes to show she was right to not trust his intentions. She escalated too.
@Aleums is there another kind??
@Aleums I just saw the Michael Bay transformers movie by chance, plenty of great samples there!
@Aleums the tiktok one?
@pluralistic I followed the link from the blog post to the Kickstarter and again to Spill https://reactormag.com/spill-cory-doctorow/), which was awesome.
@Aleums is that the red book app?
@ajroach42 @pluralistic his podcast is really good too, imagine the person writing that getting on the mic to tell you about a new tech development or injustice. "Better Offline by Ed Zitron"
@cwebber I thought the comparison to libera.chat was especially interesting because they've got one "credible exit" behind them! Back when we were all on freenode, but had to suddenly move to libera to deal with the hostile takeover. Freenode was centralized but the network was able to recreate itself in a way I haven't really seen elsewhere because IRC clients could point to a different server and carry on.
Thought keeping me awake ... What if the overworked open source maintainers start letting people contribute gpt-created documentation, and it's wrong in subtle but plausible ways ... How could we the users tell what is real, verified documentation and what is nonsense...
@dave @so_treu On the contrary, I think the racism of users, bad moderation design, and bad UX all serve the same exclusionary end.
