The open source community has great developers, but it still lacks enough UI designers and just... Designers overall.
While things are getting better (and we're seeing better and better UIs and logos on the Fediverse: Pixelfed's, the MissKey forks' and Akkomane come to mind - it's a shame people who limit themselves to Mastodon are unaware of that) there are still some issues. And yes, I'm referring to the Fediverse logo debate.
Yes, the old one is not so great, but the replacement proposal that's making ground is terrible.
@BeAware@social.beaware.live Dude, just shrug it off. Some people are just insane and/or have way too big chips on their shoulders. I've been accused of racism once because I said that I was tired of hearing if White people and Black people (in the sense that there is very little in common between White Americans and White Europeans, or Black Americans and Black Africans and so on and that we (non-Americans) are very tired of being included in a very American problem.
@evan@cosocial.ca I don't want to be, but this freaking country has such an influence on the rest of the world that we cannot not pay attention, even if we wanted to.
House of the Dragons season 2 finale. Great episode for a great but somewhat quiet season. The last five minutes were goosebump-inducing.
But...
If season 3 is not a full war all season long, I'll scream!!!
(also I'm seriously considering reading the book before season 3 starts - I've started but I'm still in the Aegon the Conqueror's part - because I've already been spoiled a major plot point that is yet to come, and I'm afraid that more will come, people seem pretty lax with spoiling this show for some reason)
Is it the Last Supper? We can debate it forever. Yes, it is, and no it's not. But it references Greek Mythology (you know, Greece, the country where the Olympics are from), I mean, the DJ has an Apollo crown on her head and Dyonisos is literally on the table.
But yeah, many classical paintings depicting Roman/Greeks parties are inspired by the painting of the Last Supper, which is itself inspired by older artworks (including Roman and Greek ones). This is intertextuality, it's everywhere in art, always has been, and always will be. And on a myth level too. A lot of motives and myths of Christianisty come straight from the Roman/Greek mythologies (and a lot of parallels can be drawn between Jesus and Dionysus, and also between Jesus and Apollo). Once again none of these things exist in vacuums, they all inspire each other, and this is a continuation of that.
But sure, let's say it's the Last Supper and the Last Supper only. What's the big deal? Hasn't the painting been referenced countless times in (classical art, as I mentioned) as well as pop culture? What's the difference?
There is quite a leap to make to go from "A scene referencing a world-famous painting" to "mocking Christianity."
And why? Why would they want to mock Christianity, right there? The thing took place in Paris, if they wanted to mock Christianity, there were many opportunities to do it and in more meaningful locations than a contemporary pedestrian bridge turned catwalk.
Being upset about this is plain ridiculous and only denotes a total misunderstanding of what's going on there.
The worst part is that I don't even see the right-wing outrage, only the left-wong outrage about the right-wing outrage.
I don't know what keywords to add to my mute list anymore.
I became very active here because it was a positive place, it was not the constant outrage and the outrage about outrage fest that Twitter had become, long before Musk bought it.
But right now, my feed looks like my Twitter feed from two-three years ago.
I'm going to start unfollowing and muting people in mass, I'm afraid. :-(
And remember people who are addicted to outrage: 1. It's mostly useless to constantly be outraged online. 2. The only effect it has is "any publicity is good publicity." The more you talk about the fascists, the transphobes, the racists, and the rest, the more visibility you give them. 3. It's bad for your mental health.
@BeAware@social.beaware.live I'm not familiar with oliphant, but Mastodon.art's admin is the worst. Sometimes I feel that if you trace back most of the Fediverse's unnecessary drama to its source, you find her. And because she owns such a domain, many people don't know better and think she's a major respectable player in here, when she's basically a troll.
I think the gutsiest part of the whole Olympic ceremony was not the "Last Supper" or not even the naked Philippe Katerine painted in blue (google him.)
I think it was the part with the beheaded Marie-Antoinettes, providing that Macron had a bunch of royals as guests of honor sitting next to him.
Also, I'm afraid many foreigners are missing an important piece of context for that part. The heavy metal band (called Gojira) and the beheaded Marie-Antoinettes were at the Conciergerie.
This building was the Royal Palace of France between the 11th and 14th Centuries (before moving to the Louvre and eventually Versailles). But it gets better. The Conciergerie was turned into a prison during the Revolution (because the Revolutionaries were cool like this) and it's the prison where... Marie-Antoinette spent her last days before being sent to the Guillotine, place de la Concorde (yes, the guillotine was where the obelisk stands nowadays).
You know how much I love the #Fediverse. I genuinely think it's the only sane way forward for the social web. However, the self-righteousness of some people on #Mastodon even gets to me sometimes. So you can imagine people who are not too sure about the place...
(you'll notice they're always on Mastodon - and usually ignorant of the rest of the Fediverse)
The saddest part is when these people are from oppressed minorities offline, and they become the oppressors here. 😥
@BeAware@social.beaware.live The problem is that most of us are bilingual or more here (unlike US-owned platforms) and on Mastodon there is no easy way to switch languages. On my Mastodon account, I set it to English as it's the language I use the most, and when I write in French... So be it...
The good news is that the latest Firefish update has a language detector and it warns me when I write in a language that's different from the one that is set and it invites me to switch.
@evan@cosocial.ca Exactly. There is relief, yes. The National Front (fuck its new bullshit name) didn't win. The Left has shown that it still could win, despite the constant right-wing propaganda in the media. But the fascists are here and here to stay. There is nothing to celebrate on the national scale.
@BeAware@social.beaware.live I can't stand screenshots anymore. They're everywhere now. On Threads, I see more and more people posting screenshots of other Threads posts. WTF?
@darnell@one.darnell.one@syuilo@misskey.io@Sujiyan@mstdn.jp The "no publicly accessible feed" ones seem to be the ones who block Threads looking at the ones I know. (the Fediblock thing probably). It'd be disingenuous to complain about Threads blocking them.
Frenchman speaking English in #Japan (and both #French and English on the Fediverse). - Doesn't read nearly enough these days.- Writes things.
