Some people just don't understand following here....well, either that or they're rude as hell and just don't feel like following back.🤷♂️

If I follow you and you don't follow back, ill eventually unfollow you cause I'll just assume you don't wanna communicate with me.

Fedi works by follow relationships and if you don't follow, there's a chance you won't get posts sent to your instance.😅

@BeAware@social.beaware.live I will have to disagree with you on this one. I curate my timeline (especially in this day and age) and I don't want it full of posts about things I don't care about.

With this current account, I follow back more liberally (and I unfollow as liberally), but with my other account, I only want to see certain topics in my timeline, and if someone follows me but never talk about those topics, there is no chance I'll follow back.

I don't care about my follows/followers ratio (and people who do it here are seriously misunderstanding something) but I care very much about what appears in my timeline (I use filters too, but they can only do so much, especially when people don't contextualize their posts)

@DavidBHimself i should have clarified that i meant i was referring to when there's an obvious interest alignment.

For example, I followed someone with a new account that was VERY into pro wrestling and only had 3 followers.

He thanked me for following him and asked me to boost his post to my followers so he could gain some traction. I did and suggested he follow me back because I wanted to banter with him about pro wrestling and he responded that he'd follow people back and boost, "in due time".

It just sucks because, at least for pro wrestling, there's not many people here discussing it. Therefore I want to discuss it with as many people as I can and if we don't all follow each other, we won't see each others posts because...well, fediverse.😬

@BeAware@social.beaware.live Yes, but if you see my posts it's because you care about what I post (and that's why I follow you too.)

Why should I follow someone who posts about things that I have no interest in? Or things that upset me or annoy me? I want to have an usage of the fediverse that has a positive impact on my mental health, not a negative one.

Also, nowadays I unfollow Americans who never contextualize their posts because they think that everyone here is American or that foreigners don't matter. Fuck those people, even if they're lovely for everything else.

In other words, there are many reasons to follow or unfollow someone, it's not one size fits all.
