Yes, most likely it is easier, or it will be. There's complex bits in the architecture and I feel their strategy is to get an ecosystem going where libs, frameworks and tools are built by 3rd-parties. After which app development is more like solution design with very comprehensive docs that guide the way.

AS/AP is like a picture of earth from the moon, while ATProto is more like a roadmap you can unfold. It is a different level of detail and holding hands.

Yes, indeed. While at the level individual apps the use cases are often domain-specific (either conform an application domain or a business domain), you can define / specify / standardize on more granular building blocks within those that could be reused in many different contexts / domains.

In addition we often discussed that there's likely - and that's what you refer to as well - something of an ActivityPub Core, which is this minimum stuff to implement in any fedi app or service.

@manlycoffee given that protocol extensibility isn't well defined, protocol flavors are created all the time, protocol decay introduced (broad interop becomes ever harder). Imho there's merit in considering #ActivityPub to be JSON-first and have a JSON-LD approach for those who wanna go the extra mile.

An extension for a particular domain requires docs/specs and validation, where JSON-LD isn't best suited. See:

Talking about #LinkedIn and The Algorithm. I am on LI for some practical reasons, though I hate the platform. Managed to get a fairly well curated feed. But if you click a post on the feed, and then navigate back, your feed has completely changed. WTF.

Other than that LinkedIn has I think the highest density of #DeceptionPatterns and #DeceptiveDesign.

What I've seen in the Netherlands, where unions were traditionally quite strong, is that for the last 2 decades or so a sentiment has been spreading that they are old-fashioned, from a different era, and somehow more relevant to people in blue collar jobs.

Esp. in IT there's a false sense of job security, and a kind of individualism and privilege by 'spoiled' employees used to great demand for their work, the nicest perks, and job-hopping very normal. So why join a union, right?

@evan indeed. The SocialHub is just a default discussion place and not required in the process, yet discussing there ensures it reaches a community with many devs active in AS/AP and knowledge is also conserved in one place for the longer term.

This in contrast to huge amounts of insights being passed around in toots in numerous exchanges between people.

The 3-stage Standards Process should encourage discussion on SocialHub for FEP's, just as it should encourage further follow-up towards W3C.

Valid concern, might be discussed, for time being, on SocialHub/FEP.

As I see it, its not different than any other boundaries that having multiple tools always throw up. E.g. the SocialCG / W3C orgs, their various repo's and the mailing list.

A forum, esp. @Discourse is very well-suited to long-form discussion and has way more functionality to organize than an issue tracker.

Looking at "busy" trackers, eg. Mastodon I'm glad not having to deal with that. And they have forum too.

It's not required, just part of the default procedure. An author that submits a #FEP can just as well choose to collect feedback in other channels, update insights on the tracking issue, and improve the text with PR's without hitting up the #SocialHub forum.

A decentralized ecosystem will evolve in many different ways. The bottom-up Standards Process needs good procedures and see them popularized, so they become natural. There's much to improve, both in FEP Process and also #W3C.
