It is not Github that is at fault. It is #Rust projects that have a dependency on yaml-rust and - via Github Actions - see CI reporting a message from RUSTSEC. Here's that advisory:

Since #Rust Crates.io started giving #RUSTSEC warnings on the unmaintained status of #yaml-rust library, there's a bit of a panic, not in the least because 1,000's of crates depend on it.

This article by the maintainer of Insta snapshot testing tool gives a nice analogy to Collateralized Debt Obligations (CDO's) with considerations on whether you should fork or might vendor the lib.

I don't have preferences wrt names, but it will be harder to defend a name with a broad adoption and where the dilution is already well underway.

Was pondering an idea to refer to the "affectionate name" we give, namely "Fedi". I capitalized it here as a name, and it can be hashtagged #Fedi as well in specific reference to that concept we wanna define.

People say Fediverse has "diverse" in it. Fedi can be short for "fediverse is diverse".

Currently the #FEP process serves as an instrument for the open ecosystem that allows people to draw attention to what they want to or have built. For reasons of collecting feedback, providing help or in hopes of others adopting their practices so as to increase general interop in some way or other.

The process is informal, lightweight, and its facilitators assume no authority. Anyone can submit FEP's on whatever they want. Authors are in charge, ecosystem decides to adopt or not.

Those were all calls to *prepare* at the time there wasn't this corporate takeover yet, and people saying how broadly we should advertise and attract people, i.e. encourage network effect we wouldn't be able to handle well. I shared many times Darius's ActivityPub conference talk on how we might be stronger in the face of what was to come.

@neil yes, it can be hard to make the link. And easy to assume detrimental effects by older generations witnessing big social changes in younger generations.

Anecdotally, I see my niece does not wanna go outside (hard to read screen in the sun), does not play with nieces/nephews at a birthday (friends are 'in the phone'). And it is hard to keep a conversation going, as the phone demands attention after a while.

Easy to get worried about that as a parent. But how is it impacting mental health?

Regarding #Bluesky opening signups, one person on HN comments:

And while that may be true from an end-user perspective, imho it is not the biggest problem. The fact that for a new dev building an #ActivityPub app is like a Viking trying to discover America is problematic. While #ATProto has the Holland-America line where you can check in for the ride.
