@shoq @tchambers It's pretty astonishing tbh the lack of understanding of consent and privacy. Very disrespectful framing of the issue too. My understanding is that it is a regular instance like any other whose sole purpose is to scrape private posts back to bluesky. That instance can and should be defederated like any other bad actor imo. As a user I now have to second guess every follow to see if they are one of these parasitic accounts. Fundamentally it subverts the platform.

Well done perfect security is not possible but this article is still very dangerous. Word to the wise: you had better understand what you are deploying, all its moving parts, who you are trusting and the potential for change in that chain if anonymity is a matter of life or death. More people than you might imagine live with this threat model. In the same breath as mentioning fingerprinting the article recommends Firefox. Firefox does not block fingerprinting out of the box. /1

@patrickcmiller or at least it does a very poor job. Tor is extremely dubious too. The 'more' is doing a lot of lifting in the title is my point. Probably unfair since how to actually achieve what the article seeks could be an O'Reilly.

In short I don't want anyone to read this and then use firefox and tor thinking they are getting anything close to anonymity.

I had someone the other day complaining about Mastodon not blocking facebook from facebook. Is this the next level? People think they can compartmentalise their morality?

@tasket @andthisismrspeacock I would take people's concerns about instances that they are not members of not domain blocking Threads if they were a. not themselves facebook users b. not employees of facebook.

That is not to say you do not get to have an opinion. Everyone does. I think allowing people to choose to block themselves and trusting in the collective is far healthier and probably less counterproductive than seeking to impose your own opinion.
