@nixCraft Neighbour bought an HP printer, fortunately she couldn't get it working so asked for help and I was in time to get her to send it back and buy a Brother. That not only works out of the box it will take other ink if needed.
HP of old is long gone. Even a decade ago I had some PA-RISC hardware to return and I asked HP and nobody in HP even knew what PA-RISC was let alone how to return them, so I stuck em in a box and parcelforced them to a random HP office
@nixCraft HP was a once proud company that produced high quality lab equipment and very useful and durable RPN calculators that were easily programmable. HP is the canary in the coal mine for the decline of Western corporate capitalism.
@Frank_Engelhard I've heard that Standard Oil did that, but always assumed it was in their home market. This is the first time I hear the phrase. Thanks! I'm one of today's lucky 10000.
@nixCraft I had a relatively expensive networked HP printer several years ago. One day, without asking, it got a "firmware update", without my consent. It bricked the printer. HP support was "the one year warranty is expired. Buy a new printer." I should have gone to small claims court.
