    @whitequark Oh that is super awesome! I noticed that Sigrok was falling down here and put my QSPI gateware project back on hold until I could do something like this. Procrastination paying off for me 😁

    @mcc Whenever I am coaching new engineers who are trying to figure out what to do now that they built something and it doesn't work, I tell them this;

    "Verify that everything you think is true, actually *is* true. For anything that isn't or is unexpected, find out *why*."

    At the end of that exercise they will nearly always know what the problem is.

    Definitely a mass casualty event, first one in 16 years for a commercial jet apparently. SECDEF is going to have their hands full trying to figure out why deconfliction protocols may not have been followed?

    @SteveBellovin The Steve Jobs quote is spot on. The Linux 'user land' developers do not want "Unix" architecture for free they want "Windows" architecture for free. They learned to program on windows, they grew up using windows, they "get" windows, they "want" windows but without the gatekeeping of Microsoft.

    Once you understand *that*, you understand systemd and all of the other tasteless things that have become part of distributions.

    @karlauerbach @mkj

    This makes total sense to me, there is no "standard" for people implementing their "right to object" so DNT should definitely be considered a valid way. If the EU court would rule that "cookie choices" MUST revert to 'necessary only' when DNT is sent and not bother asking for additional confirmation it would make DNT super useful to users as well.

    @mekkaokereke Have you ever seen this video? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JWVKrtmpQbE&pp=ygUqYnJlYWtpbmcgY2FyIHdpbmRvdyB3aXRoIHNwYXJrIHBsdWcgc2hhcmRz it shows how using ceramic you can easily break a car's windows. Thieves use it to do smash and grabs. Not disagreeing that the manual release is best but even cars with electric windows need something like that.

    "I really liked your paper, what program did you use to create those illustrations? They are fantastic."

    "The program prefers to be called Mike, he's a technical illustrator. Would you like contact information?"

    #FreedBSD is making me big sad. Tried to 'pkg install firefox' and it said no such package. Did a 'pkg search firefox', no such package. Went to ports and said 'make' in the firefox directory and it bombs after trying to build
    firefox
    wasi-libcxx
    wasi-compiler-rt17
    llvml7
    llvml7
    py-sphinx-markdown-tables
    py-markdown
    Because py39 markdown conflicts with py311markdown. Argh

    @jik +1 to this. If you're white try making an account as a person of color. The hate pile on quite real.

    As an engineer I recognize that countering that is extremely challenging without a central authority approving access to the network.

    Subscribing to some sort of real-time blocking service for instance operators might help (its a spam mitigation technique in email)

    That's an interesting take. Even without the inflammatory reference to 'blackface'. Do you always assume people you don't know are bad actors?

    This whole thread is marvelous. It's about the "leftover" parts from SpaceX missions surviving reentry even though SpaceX had told NASA they would not. #space #spacejunk #hardware

    Clearly a challenge to build stuff that is guaranteed to burn up when the initial conditions are hard to predict.

      Attached: 1 image Barry had his neighbour bring over the terrifyingly huge piece he found for a great photo op for all the journalists. That particular piece was 9 feet long, weighed 80 pounds, and was shaped like a freaking spear. It is shocking to think about that falling at terminal velocity. I am grinning like an idiot because I was REALLY excited. There was about 250 lbs of junk here. SpaceX has never shared how much a Crew Dragon Trunk weighs, I'd guess this is a significant fraction!

    @briankrebs Ever return to places in your dreams? Like dream places? I tried to explain this to my wife but she does not do this at all.

    Sometimes, in a dream, I'll be somewhere, that doesn't exist in reality but that I have been to before in previous dreams. Its weird remembering places you've been in dreams. I know it happens over multiple dreams because when I wake up I often can recall large chunks of my last dream. Different days, same place in my dream. Apparently that's very weird.
