    • NetBSD Foundation ?
    • Solène :flan_hacker:

@solene @charlotte #NetBSD OTOH reportedly added some support that is not available in XOrg but was present in XFree86? (I think I may actually have one video card in that situation, although I didn't check...)

    https://blog.netbsd.org/tnf/entry/x_org_on_netbsd_the

There may also be a question of how fit some Linux and XOrg drivers are nowadays:

But now I'm getting the redirect to "a lite version" as soon as I follow the link to the description page. This redirect, in my experience, has never worked over the years, but wasn't on this part of archive.org, and now it redirects to a 404 message.

@textfiles @lxo It used to be not very easy to access files at archive.org w/o JS before, but it'd work. In-browser viewing required JS, but it would load a page with at least links to browse all files, and IIRC that provided direct links (perhaps with a redirect in the middle, but something one could feed e.g. wget).

@semitones @0xabad1dea Quite honestly, if I see this behaviour in a linux system, my guess is: it's a Broadcom WLAN NIC.

@anthk Not knowing Arena, how are you setting the X resources? There are some conflicting ways to set it, besides a few places saying you need to run xrdb, which is not always true (and has the effect of making you need to run xrdb afterwards in the same X11 session). Just putting in $HOME/.Xdefaults ought to work, unless it's one of these situations where xrdb is needed. This seems to explain the different ways much better:

@mms format is similar, distribution is different. Some months ago, or maybe it was last year, someone wrote (or linked) a paper on the (early?) history of USENET that made the rounds in the fediverse.

I don't have the reference handy, though. Hopefully someone else has.

@th I have to concur with @w that your comment sounds a bit off. Why "the nerds"? This kind of stupidity is most often pushed by business people in suits. See Logitech mice and HP inkjet printers.

This is a kind of abuse and stupidity people who have a passion for technology (which I'd term more geek than nerd but I digress) probably don't have much patience for.

@hj @kkarhan @radmin @SuperDicq One wonders how did people manage to use the web before webapps became a thing, or before any JavaScript.

There's also the angle that, nowadays, instead of forms, one might end up with a heavy "web application", that's *much heavier* that it'd be if it were native, and that's probably part of the criticism out there.
