I haven't really looked into the debate for changing GIMP's name, but I certainly agree that other brand names would fit this project better. Glimpse, a name for a now-gone fork of it, would be perfect, but I'd be interested if they come up with other names, such as:
- GNOME Touchups (in-line with the simple namings of other GTK4-based apps)
- Picrevise/Imadjust, which sound quite a bit silly, but are unique and convey well GIMP's role as an image editor

I guess the thing, though, is that GIMP doesn't want the risk of ditching their brand with a worse one, and that it feels that the debate for name change isn't well-known outside Fedi (On Bluesky, I mostly get results just talking about the program (after scrolling through the hornyposting and AI vomit)). :neofox_think:

My posts from a year ago are too cringe, man (I no longer feel that permissive licensing is lesser than, even when I personally don't use it; Bluesky, Osu, and many other software projects have been successful while using it - Open-source extremism is just not my thing anymore :neofox_shocked:

I know that China isn't collapsing unlike what the American right is saying (like, how can one seriously say that about a country that built a high-speed rail network within 20 years?) and that it isn't really totalitarian, but I haven't seen what happened to the social credit system after much of western media made a big stink about it. Found the spare USB Wi-Fi dongle, and I got my desktop back up and running with it :blobfox_w:

It's not fast (it's a Wi-Fi 3 dongle, which caps at 54 Mbps and is only 2.4 GHz), and it's ancient as fuck, but it's fast enough for me not to say "Fuck" at it :aneofox_bongo:

@icedquinn@blob.cat @david@blob.cat Yea, I wish consumer laptops would receive more love from the companies behind them - Not everyone (especially those in developing countries) has a healthy used market, or sometimes the devices themselves would have been suitable in aspects besides quality (such as specs or service) :pensivecat:
