@SuperDicq@minidisc.tokyo I haven't watched his previous Linux challenge series yet, but I feel like Linus' poor experiences were mostly just because he used the shitty meme distros that got popular because they marketed to gamers
- Pop OS is getting better now (especially with COSMIC being GNOME but sensible), but the old Pop Shop is a complete meme that drains one's will to live and is literally why Linus fried his entire install from just trying to get Steam :woozy_angry:
- Manjaro Linux :lets_expire:
Hopefully he at least picks an actually good distro this time - Linux really is an awesome family of OSes, and it's just that it doesn't yet fit everyone's hardware and software needs :blobcat_wine: -

@SuperDicq@minidisc.tokyo Us website owners are just as smug as Bluskey users about "using the Internet in a correct way," but the difference is that we're right - Building a website really is fun and a great way to express yourself without depending on any particular megacorporation :protomoji_happy:

@SuperDicq@minidisc.tokyo @thisjayx@labyrinth.zone Ngl, it feels like the Core 2 Duo will last forever. I remember using computers with them in the High School computer labs back around 2019, where they were faster than the Celeron-infested e-waste I had back at home. They could handle Youtube like a champ along with multiple browser tabs open, and they only struggled when I browsed on the USA Today news site (which sucks ass anyways). It also seems that they're still truckin' along as long as you have either Tiny11 or Linux on them. Smartphones and tablets will suffer the curse of the spicy pillow (or the manufacturer just says "fuck you" and ends support early), but the Core 2 Duo will continue to satisfy budding libre software nerds for years to come.

@sun@shitposter.world Imo, it confirms the obvious that the US was only mad at Titkok for not being part of Silicon Valley and instead being descended from Chinese Tech. They were fine with Youtube Shorts and Instagram Reels also promoting algorithm-induced societal decay, and they were fine with Facebook and Google spying on users, and they were fine with tech companies cooperating with the police and Israel. :blobfoxannoyed:

@koimoa@nishikigoi.space @icedquinn@blob.cat the "good" ones are paid relaysHuh, weird that Nostr, a much smaller protocol than Fedi, is more commercialized than Fedi. Almost all Fedi instances are either fully free to join or just require the mods inviting you, and they mostly rely on donations from its users to cover costs (they can even be paid for out-of-pocket, even). I expected Nostr to have a similar culture of open decentralization like Fedi. :neofox_think:

@ra1n@social.freedombits.org Maybe I'll consider it, tho I'm moreso considering the Minimal phone, since it also runs Android, but has a QWERTY keyboard for faster texting (which I need) and an e-ink screen for reading text-based media

@SuperDicq@minidisc.tokyo @aetios@sns.minovsky.space I honestly don't understand why people still use GrapheneOSI'd imagine it's because it's because future fascism victims need it (security and all) and it's one of the most-compatible custom ROMs that don't embed in GApps. Otherwise, I'm wishing that other custom ROMs had the spotlight instead (especially the customizable ones), cause' Pixel phones are mid, and having stock Android but you look hackerman kinda sucks.

@SuperDicq@minidisc.tokyo @denza252@shitposter.world windows literally expects you to go on the internet and download random exe filesPSA to Linux beginners: It's okay to use the app store, or rather, graphical package manager on Linux. It's not like the Windows Store and Play Store, where they were designed to enforce a monopoly and crush the freedom of software distribution. You can add repositories from fully independent developers to get more sources of apps whenever :richard_stallman_throws_gimp_pepper:
