@SuperDicq@minidisc.tokyo@fsf@hostux.social I guess it's most likely a stock image that the FSF has found for their blog, cause' the Macbook certainly would've been a Thinkpad instead. :drgn_think:
@prettygood@socially.drinkingatmy.computer@fiore@shrimptest.bedwetting.club Same - In general, it's baffling that only Firefox and browsers derived from it have extensions. For instance, I can never use Youtube without Unhook extension and Sponsorblock anymore, as I am fucking done with having my opinions decided by a cold, inhuman algorithm or being exposed to what have consistently been either trash products or harmful scams. Yet, not having access to them means that if Invidious gets murdered again, I'm subjected to this sort of shit again. It's like Google is afraid of people customizing the functionality of their browsers :blobcat_unamused:
@SuperDicq@minidisc.tokyo@eloy@hsnl.social Ngl, at this point in life, I'll probably assume that all self-identified hot takes that aren't stated in a "You don't have to agree" tone are also shit takes with few exceptions. I feel that trying too hard to be bold has been a net negative for internet culture, with people being overly harsh on objectively good things or trying to defend objectively bad things :blobcat_shrug:
Ice-cold take: Chromebooks aren't real computers :neofox_middlefinger: - It can't play real games from Steam, Epic, GOG, and Itch - It soon can't install apps outside the godawful Play Store - It dies after less than 8 years from no updates, when even the already shitty Microsoft will support all computers with TPM2 - Google
@sun@shitposter.world Like, a Nintendo Switch or a network switch? It's hella crazy how the Nintendo Switch 1 actually went up in price, like how the hell does that even happen? It's an 8-year-old underpowered tablet :blobfoxannoyed:
@prettygood@socially.drinkingatmy.computer@waifu@mai.waifuism.life Unironic true - There's always an instance that anyone can not just join, but also belong in (not just the crackheads alt-tech wants to market to), and the platform itself is even resistant to censorship-by-copyright :blobfoxcheer:
@sun@shitposter.world It's harsh for me to make jokes about this hardware, but I don't think you need $229 to play a game library that just consists of Itch.io games you can already play for free :fox_laugh_sweat:
Call me someone with shit taste in food, but I miss getting the specialty pizza and french fries for lunch period back in high school :blobcat_drool_reach:
Ngl, it's funny how Wi-Fi 3 is still perfectly usable in the modern day, even with how bloated and disgusting the modern internet has become. It's certainly slow and I'd love to upgrade my Wi-Fi card from the spare one I'm still using months later, but as far as real-world usability goes, social media works with little issue, music and video streaming works with little issue, and even a fancy website like apple.com works with little issue. The only real issue is that downloads, especially for large files like animes and modern videogames, are hella slow, sometimes needing me to keep my PC on overnight. :drgn_think__w_:
Really, speed is just no longer a factor with why computers become obsolete anymore. Now, it's either that maintaining legacy hardware is hard for devs to maintain (especially with security) or the manufacturer forces planned obsolescence by not providing updates that they could easily develop for.
@SuperDicq@minidisc.tokyo@ancient_catbus@jorts.horse Yea, the thing is while corporate alternative platforms (Twitter, Parler, Odysee) pretend to uphold free speech, Fedi is actually the best platform for free expression. Despite major issues with decentralization (such as instances trying to impose indirect control over other instances, untalented admins frying servers), the sheer range of instances to join means there's always a community that you are free to express yourself in. If you want near-absolute freedom, spring for shitposter.world. If you want both a cozy community and open federation, join blob.cat. If you want to join an instance of just Pokemon fans, hahahahaha, just talk about Pokemon on a general instance instead of confusing new users by treating a Twitter-like platform like a worse Reddit. If you want the safest and most wholesome communities possible, go for something like tech.lgbt or wetdry.world. Plus, us admins're not trying to profit off this at all, so there's no incentive for us to listen to fuckwads like copyright lawyers, advertisers, untalented influencers, and such. :blobcat_finger_guns:
@raccoon@hollow.raccoon.quest@sun@shitposter.world Compares elitism with FOSS to racism The concept of race itself is no longer helpful, especially in science FOSS has been proven over the years to be far more user-friendly than their proprietary equivalentsWaow it's like not all elitism is unjustified, especially with a dark centuries-long impact that we're still dealing with :crow_pogface:
In general, it feels like the need to publish hot takes is ruining the internet - Sure, your controversial opinion is unique and would make those who disagree cope and seethe, but it also sucks on an objective level :neofox_drake_dislike:
Hey!I'm Poppy Farbird, a queer (she/they) furry artist who wants to work with technology and the admin of Citrus Plaza. Specifically, I both create artworks of anthros (though they are on my other account) and boost other artists' fascinating works. For technology, I try to integrate open-source projects the best I can. I have Linux on my gaming PC, use software like Codium, Onlyoffice, Krita, and such, and sometimes promote these projects to others. In the future, I also want to support them financially and through commits in their codebase. I'm also trying to get into things like web design and animation. Anyways, it's just nice to be in the Fedi, which has one of the best communities on the internet.
