@nuko@sam that argument is more about the fact that its ultimately what you have to use if you want performance but don't want to write 30k lines of asm (which is far worse). I have no problem with people using stuff like Go/nim/etc. that trades off being a little slower for less headache, but people who claim it's obsolete are simply being naive and show they don't really understand the needs of high performance usecases like graphics and DSP or low level use cases like drivers and other kernel space shit. Those usecases need GC free languages and if C is ever replaced there it will be by another lean GC free lang that just has better metaprogramming capabilities.
@sun@RustyCrab why can't they just fork android outright and do security patches themselves? relying on google at all is the main mistake at this point. they already have a fake out compatibility layer to trick apps into thinking the gplay services are on it so might as well just diverge completely and implement a sandboxed wine-like compatibility environment and just run it as a truly independent project.
@sun@RustyCrab@icst wont this have more effect for new phones going forward? the one I ordered to install it on was a 9a which was to replace the 4a I am still currently using...
@RustyCrab I literally just ordered another phone I was going to install this on... are they really shutting it down? looking at the stuff on their site it's really clear to me what they are talking about?
@bajax@icst yeah unfortunetly it can't do hellthreads yet because of the way I implemented the scrolling timeline. Apperently there is some signed 16bit size limit (+-32768) for the size of canvas elements that can be rendered in tk for historical and after that it just truncates. I currently naively just keep adding elements as I go so it hits the limit eventually and breaks. To avoid that I need to do some restructuring to do something like only statuses in view plus above and below by one screen deleting and re-rendering as I go. I decided putting off doing that for now because it will likely be a pain in the ass, but I'll want to do that at some point if I want to make this thing more useful.
@azure@lina People relate to the situation and consequences not the actions. They end up in the same boat without doing anything like he did to cause it
@lina@azure personally I think it is more because of stuff like the racisms and family life issues that people online 'relate' to with him. The parts people focus on and quote like "in this house..." and etc others imply this. People also 'relate' to it in the metaphorical sense of being displaced from a place in society. However, unlike Tony, the place being lost is not being a criminal, but simply having a job or family or living in country that isn't overrun with foreigners coming as your replacement. Stuff like that is what people 'relate' to.
@RustyCrab@Inginsub@nyanide There's apparently an alternative client for it someone made that I saw but it was CLI only. There may be a GUI wrapper for it though. Though I've never used either that or the official one because even though I made an account to redeem some of the free games they have a lot, I've never really gotten around to trying to actually download and run anything from them yet. I have enough stuff on GoG and steam I haven't played to care.
@Inginsub that's enough money to buy a house outright without a loan in some areas. If that's just to pay off debt I can't even imagine how you would get that much in debt
@Inginsub I had that problem for a while and had to use the switch user button to return to the display manager and sleep from there. Eventually fixed it by reinstalling the xfce screenlock package. The whole "Unix philosophy" BS for xfce is pretty much just a larp really since there are hidden dependencies between the components. so you really just would be better off if it was one big package instead because you end up having to install them all for it to work correctly anyways.
@Inginsub the schitzo theory that he's been replaced, because "his height doesnt match", actually started a while ago too. I think I remember vox day saying that shit possibly as far back as the end of Trump's first term in 2021, but I guess it's spreading now because there is no other cope left that can fully justify his actions
@Inginsub@parker I think I vaguely remember Roussman specifically said he had monotization disabled completely and they still insert ads now without permission in one of the videos that he was encouraging people to use Adblock as much as possible. And I think I have seen other people say this as well that YouTube overrides it and puts ads on it anyway and give them nothing. I suspect it happens automatically if the video exceeds a certain number of views. They slap ads on it anyways and keep all the revenue for themselves
