>hot guy has one of his "red flags" as "having a light up keyboard that makes clicky noises" >tempted to tell him this isn't a problem because I don't have blue switches
@picandor@beardalaxy My friend is a madwoman and uses blues, I used cherrymx browns before but the pandas are so much better and not too expensive. My sibling has a keeb with gateron reds and they feel nice but I don’t like linear for coding or writing.
@beardalaxy@picandor were your switches lubed beforehand? You can use o-rings to help dampen the sound but I don’t like the way reds or linear switches feel. I use glorious pandas btw.
@teratology I have brown switches right now which is nice because blue switches are too loud for my house, but I would like blue switches for my work setup. @beardalaxy
the keyboard i bought just barely defaulted to reds and i haven't had the money to switch them out yet. i fucking love not just the sound of them but most importantly the feedback from the click itself. other switches just aren't the same.
what switches do you use though? blues are super clicky but most other switches are a lot more audible than your typical membrane keyboard. even these reds can be heard outside of my door by my roommates sometimes.
@RustyCrab@beardalaxy@picandor@teratology brown person talking about brown keycaps all i know is that cherry mx and the likes are too fucking expensive, im rocking a key tronic e03601
@RustyCrab@lina@beardalaxy@picandor right now I have a 60% layout and I kinda regret it but got used to it. I have a bunch of the missing keys hotkeyed on here anyways. I want another keeb but my boyfriend told me I have a problem.
@picandor@RustyCrab@beardalaxy@teratology nope, QWERTY layout is good enough if you want, you can buy a russian keyboard, but all it'll give you a heads up on is which key is which in the russian layout, but you can learn it without a visual aid like this
@lina since you are (likely) Russian, is it worth getting a diff keyboard layout to type in Russian (I have US standard) @RustyCrab@beardalaxy@teratology
@RustyCrab@lina@beardalaxy@picandor I agree, you don’t know what you have until you’ve lost it. From a price perspective, the ggmk compact is the same as the tenkeyless layout so I fucked up.
@teratology@lina@beardalaxy@picandor I still like tlk but they're so incredibly rare in the custom scene that I simply gave up trying to get them. Not that I'm really buying them anymore. I'm mostly keeping an eye out for a good 65 Alice layout that doesn't cost multiple arms and legs.
@picandor@RustyCrab@beardalaxy@teratology happens i guess, i just use the standard russian layout that basically goes ЙЦУКЕН if we go by qwerty и честно говоря я немного в ахуе что люди сомневаются что я русский, мне уже и корефан говорил что я местами как англосос себя веду, хотя я с этим не согласен
@lina@RustyCrab@beardalaxy@picandor@teratology my keyboard (gigabyte k83) has red cherry mx switches and wasn't too expensive for me, but I got it on a good sale and the base price was also lower than most because it doesn't have back-light/rgb shit.
@picandor@m4c@teratology@beardalaxy@RustyCrab it's not that clicky, as clicky than any other membrane keyboard from the 90s, although an acer 6511 i used before the membrane got too worn out from continuous use was much louder in terms of keypresses
@picandor@RustyCrab@m4c@beardalaxy@teratology not much can be done here, i think i should start slowly shaking myself awake, i'm planning on getting my driving practice done and done :ryukoblink:
