Every article I read talking up Bluesky as an alternative to Twitter, when it mentions Mastodon: “Bluesky is federated like Mastodon except it's easy to use because it's not actually federated.”
I’m not in the business of rationing toots like someone over at the other reverse chronological micro-blog site, but maybe 1000 requests per second is a bit too much.
(This has been going on since yesterday, if you were having intermittent performance issues this is why. It’s been blocked since last night but won’t stop.)
@david@mongoose@Dora@mastohost Full disclosure, I have found the translation thing hit or miss overall. DeepL works great, when it's able to be triggered. The post you read has to be tagged with the language posted and be different from your UI.
The ability is there, just takes some moon/star alignment for it to prompt, and even then it's only for the default Web UI.
@david@mongoose@Dora@mastohost there are two ways to do translation, one is through the DeepL API (which we use) and the other is running your own libtranslate instance.
In either case you have to be able to connect your instance to it in the .env.production file, which you’d have to ask Masto Host if that’s something they support.
@anildash@evan it’s just another option, but yeah it’s already a little concerning how much runs behind Cloudflare already. Ultimately it needs to be easy to have Mastodon (or compatible platforms) anywhere and everywhere.
