@jeffowski I totally agree with the sentiment expressed in this post. However, I find it a bit confusing / inconsistent / hypocritical since so many of your posts rip religion as made up bullshit. So which is it?
One of the most obvious tells in an #AI written article is the overuse of the word “important." Everything is always "It's very important to..." “We must remember the importance of…"
That and the gobs and gobs of filler sentences that state the obvious or don't tell you anything new you didn't know. "Here we are going to discuss why [this] and the benefits of [that]…”
People can’t even grasp the concept of a billionaire. It just feels “rich” to them. But put it in terms of time:
1 million seconds is 12 days
1 billion seconds is 32 years
That’s what an obscene amount of money a billion dollars is.
@RickiTarr No. every single person is unique and different. “Normal” isn’t intrinsic, it can only be defined through a societal lens, what a specific society calls “normal.” And because there are many, many different societies, all with different views of what “normal” is, there is no universal definition.
@incre_ment We have them here in NC too. You mainly see them outside big box stores. I was told by an employee that since offfical policy is for the employee NOT to engage or try and stop any shoplifters, these surveillance towers are supposed to record any incident so that the police will be able to identify the people later.
@stuartl @ai6yr I'm with Stuart on this one. I still collect CDs. A lot of the classic bluegrass that I listen to is out of print or not on streaming services which makes CDs the better option.
Another reason is that often times things will appear and disappear on streaming services based on negotiations with the rights holders. Owning the CD prevents that.
If you ever wonder where our society went wrong, about $2.5 billion was invested in drone delivery companies between 2013 and 2019 with absolutely nothing to show for it. Money that could have gone towards affordable housing, universal healthcare, high speed rail…literally anything that would actually help people instead of dropping single jars of peanut butter onto people’s driveway from 12 feet in the air.
Sorry for the screenshot post, but this is too good not to share. Great idea.
@thomasfuchs Were you at least able to pay using your phone?
My usual grocery store (Harris Teeter) has NO way to pay other than a physical card or a check. Can't use the NFC on a phone, can't use Apple Pay. I have my credit card info memorized, but they won't even type it in manually! So frustrating.
(Interesting how often I forget my wallet, but never my phone.)
@Radical_EgoCom The most confusing thing to me is that people are even surprised by this. The corporation’s literal job is to extract as much labor as possible for the least amount of money.
@Radical_EgoCom Exactly. "Preserving our business model" is the number 1 innovation killer.
