@osnews Hard to argue with the rationale there… I think @mgorny hits the nail fair on the head here.

The same can be true in some cases with StackOverflow and similar online forums… yeah, okay for inspiration, but do your homework, don't use a piece of code you don't understand… you should really vet it and understand how it works.

I've been known to use the odd one-liner or two from SO, but only if I can understand what the code is doing… and only very small pieces of code (often one-liners).

Generative AI really is akin to taking a waltz through the minefield. Only a matter of time before it takes your leg.

@ai6yr People at work have tried to "evangelise" Spotify to me.

My arguments against it have basically been:

    1. I've been collecting albums (CDs and vinyl) longer than they've been alive.
    2. The albums I have in my collection from that time, *still play just fine*.
    3. Lots of stuff I listen to *isn't* on the streaming platforms
    4. Since it's all "ripped" to the computer, I can pretty much access any of it at any time, without incurring data charges.
    5. No big yellow taxi will be taking my "Harvest" away just because it was sharing a server with a conspiracy theorist.
    6. When I go, executors of my estate can pick through what I have, keep what they want, and sell the rest.

Well… qemu supports a few models, and apparently `ne2k_isa` is one of them -- probably your best bet with an early 90s vintage OS.

`qemu-system-i386 -net model=ne2k_isa,irq=5,iobase=0x280 …` from what I gather via a quick search on the topic.

Failing that, maybe SLIP or PPP via a virtual serial port mapped to a pseudo TTY.

Actually no… (dusts off EE degree)… the fact that it's stainless steel will raise the *resistance* of the circuit, which will cause a *voltage drop* across the nail clippers proportional to the *current* flowing through them.

    V = IR -- Ohm's Law.

That power loss (P=I²R) will be seen as heat dissipation. The conductors there, whilst not ideal, seem big enough to handle the likely small amount of current. I doubt it's 10A flowing through that.

The dangerous bit about this is the fact that there is no insulation to prevent someone from making contact with the active or neutral circuits.

Human skin resistance at 230V (or even 110V) is not sufficient to keep current flow below safe levels, so the current flow may cause fibrillation of the heart.

If it weren't for that, it wouldn't be any more dangerous than a proper travel adaptor. (Which would comply with AS/NZS:3000.)

@a1ba Bah… youngin' "Starfield simulation" goes back a decade before Windows XP.

I did just check Windows 3.0, but no screen saver option there, maybe it was an add-on for that release, but Windows 3.1 it was an out-of-the-box standard feature.
