The 13th and 14th amendments were passed under duress. The southern states were forced to pass them or be denied representation in Congress and they were occupied by a military force that interfered with elections. The text also says "subject to the jurisdiction thereof" and did not always apply to foreigners here illegally. It didn't even apply to Indians until the 20th century.

People need their copium. We saw it with millennials (sorry) and the LGBT. The pushback needs to come first so people can say "oh thank goodness I can finally admit how I felt the whole time, I was just trying to fit in by going along with them" - they won't admit they were wrong until they feel it's socially acceptable

The same logic is being used in the name of environmentalism now. My state banned plastic bags and now I use 1 bag for every single grocery item because the recycled mesh things rip when you look at them funny, instead of the old days when I could stuff 50 cans of soup in 1 plastic bag

Trump is a New York urbanite with liberal leanings, he's anti-gun and obviously somewhat retarded. But he will put in bureaucrats and judges who actually improve things. Trump's opinions on RvW and abortion are irrelevant, what matter is he'll put conservative Christians on the Supreme Court and in charge of Health and Human Services.

Interesting. I've always had the opposite experience. I gravitated to Catholics because they reinforced the importance of avoiding sin/the near occasion of sin while doing the will of the Father, and stress that we shouldn't presume God's mercy by saying "well I can just confess later" - while Protestants told me I can do whatever I want, once I accept Christ ("Once saved, always saved")

That's every denomination. Members of the Western Branch of American Reform Presbylutheranism or whatever tend to cherry-pick more than Catholics. Even the Eastern churches squabble with each other. No sense dividing over it, point should be to defend our common values and beliefs until we can get on the same page doctrinally.

The quality of the news broadcast, the fact that he was named Nickarius, and the perfection of what happened made me doubt the legitimacy. So I looked it up, and it's just one local station reporting on this, the Nickarius guy doesn't even have much online presence (though it's difficult to sort through all the Nickarius's who have been arrested for violent crimes).
If it's true as-reported, then it's another reminder that larger news agencies intentionally avoid stories.
I've worked on incidents that wound up in Fox News and CNN because some property got damaged. Next time there's a big fire/police emergency/natural disaster in your town, take a look at who's there - even at 3AM, the news (they listen to radio broadcasts) will sometimes be there before the incident is even over. You'll have six cameras lined up on the sidewalk, pointed at a house, with a bunch of reporters saying, "Yep, this house wasn't on fire, then it was, and now it is once again not on fire. More at 11."
But this guy claps the man who kidnaps his daughter and it's nothing but crickets... Moon crickets.
