Lin Feng (brokensword@poa.st)'s status on Thursday, 03-Oct-2024 01:31:26 JST Lin Feng @sickburnbro The conflation of "cheap" and "inexpensive" is nearly complete, like "jealous" and "envious" before it. -

Pots and pans are crap too. I have my grandmothers and aunts cast iron. And I have a set of lifetime pots and pans from the 60s (my aunt's). All of my husband's fancy pans have died or gotten gross. I broke out my other grandmothers pyrex flame ware, the glass that looks like a science project. I love it. If we need more, I'll get them on eBay or at a thrift shop. -

That Would Be Telling (thatwouldbetelling@shitposter.world)'s status on Thursday, 03-Oct-2024 10:18:08 JST That Would Be Telling @sickburnbro @Shannon14850 I looked into this and the story I found was that for cookware Corning generally switched from borosilicate to soda–lime glass, but did a really good job of manufacturing it (and now having bought some more old Pyrex and looked at all of it closely I can see careful design too).
When the Pyrex brand was sold in 1998 the company that got it for the US of course dropped the careful manufacturing.

Bread up, Bro (sickburnbro@poa.st)'s status on Thursday, 03-Oct-2024 10:19:52 JST Bread up, Bro @chud @Shannon14850 yeah, it's all tiring. There are so many stupid and/or malicious things done in the name of "environmentalism" where they are transparently not good for the environment or just plain people ripping you off. -

chud (chud@nicecrew.digital)'s status on Thursday, 03-Oct-2024 10:19:53 JST chud The same logic is being used in the name of environmentalism now. My state banned plastic bags and now I use 1 bag for every single grocery item because the recycled mesh things rip when you look at them funny, instead of the old days when I could stuff 50 cans of soup in 1 plastic bag
