What if rather than the Mastodon core team running the central instance they ran a central relay and it was easier to start small instances that were easier to moderate?

Should we have ActivityPub's big relay era? I think about what distinguishes Bluesky and ActivityPub.

1. Trust and Safety - ActivityPub and Mastodon need to do more here.
2. A big relay - The distinguishing feature of BS is that every one is on a common relay, even if you are hosting your own data.

This big relay helps to solve a lot of discoverability challenges that plague ActivityPub ecosystems.

#Bluesky raising a series A round from #Blockchain really makes me want to keep my primary home in the #ActivityPub ecosystem. Blockchain is a grift and a plight upon the world (in the literal global warming sense as well as the figurative scam perspective).

Eventually these investors will want to make their money back.

It's a little wild to go into #Bluesky, and see posts from my bridged Open Social #fediverse account, quote posting an item from #Threads. That's an exciting amount of interoperability.

@BeAware yes and no. I'm happy that I can follow some folks from both platforms but it is definitely not full fidelity.

I have Bridget this account into bluesky. But when I creating a native bluesky account I found my own post and there were responses and likes that I had no idea about because those accounts had not opted in.

I appreciate that bridgyfed made their service opt in, it's the right privacy position. But asking folks to opt in at scale will always be an uphill battle.

I am exactly the kind of person who doesn't normally have problems with abuse on #mastodon , I'm white and well off. But I sense this place becoming less vibrant because people are choosing bluesky or threads over #activitypub platforms.

There is great appeal to letting people use natural language to get the computer to speak human language rather than requiring humans to do the difficult work of expressing themselves in a precise computer language.

They can decide what the statutes say, they can decide if executive action is within the bounds of the law, they can decide on immunity.
