They don't promote far right content. They promote center right content, and host far right content.There are few free "free speech" options for far right channels to go to when kicked from Youtube and Rumble is clearly the best of those technologically, except for the VC funding, paid creators, tracking, ads and enshitification.

I've pondered this and there are Issues.

- With fiat you get gatekeepers and anti-V4V policies.

- Any crypto gets a ton of push back from listeners and creators due to media FUD. Monero or Hive will get an order of magnitude more push back than Bitcoin.

- Have yet to find a non-crypto non-fiat micropayment system that didn't stink incredibly of scam

almost all want a simple address they can go to to experience PeerTube and joinpeertube is much more user hostile than they are looking for in a default site.

Me too, but they are on the dev side and not available yet. Until that point the ops side should be doing what it can.

Because the biggest hurdle for new users is instance choice anxiety

Because small instances frequently go down ruining the experience for users.

Because ~90% of users are content consumers, not creators, and don't benefit particularly from the decentralized part of the infrastructure

Because now with the export/import support viewers can easily migrate off the default instance when they decide to become creators or migrate to a particular instance.

I would assume #CastoPod does as well, but haven't tested it myself.

@alex @Chocobozzz The main advantage to the well-known exposure method is it turns the activitypub address into a passthrough lightning address. You can send a payment to errhead@freediverse.com and it goes to the lightning address I have configured on that PeerTube instance.

@alex How are you getting the payment address, via API call or via Activitypub? Currently PeerTube Lightning cross app comment zaps get the remote address from API calls to mastodon/soapbox, and exposes payment info using the well-known/lunurlp and keysend for the user's Activitypub address. To work on adding recieving compatibility with this payment method I'll probably need to get @Chocobozzz to add another hook to the plugin API so I want to make sure I'm adding the info in the right place.

The issue with PeerTube's standard RSS feeds not working with Torrent clients has been around for a while. A recently linked discussion reminded me I haven't checked it since the Podcast 2.0 feed became available. Verified it still wasn't working and hunted down https://www.bittorrent.org/beps/bep_0036.html

Been working on an RSS feed that uses that spec for PeerTube channels to properly expose PeerTube's .torrent file for regular torrent client download.

All PeerTube instance I run, manage, and assist with updated to 6.0.3

PeerTube Torrent compatible RSS feed now working with BiglyBT, Brave browser, and qBittorrent on windows, still having issues with android clients and lacking any seeboxes or IOS systems to test against.

yeah, perhaps if you completely ignore the p2p and p2n baked into PeerTube. anyone who has used decentralized media distribution IRL can see through this obvious FUD.

Centralization is only better at gatekeeping, user tracking, and ddos vulnerability.

That is a wonderfully in depth article. That they picked Soapbox for this is really a high quality endorsement.

Though so far it's making me more sympathetic to Gab's claims that federation at scale was out of their technological grasp and wasn't dropped purely for control reasons.

Yeah, that's the stumbling block I ran into when I was working with Thorium. The only way I could get it to work was through a webview which is an ugly hack in an android native app.
