You're asking this question amongst a group of people that have all volunteered to get a wallet and pay, so yes, while Podcasts remain free (which they all are) people will feel the need to get a wallet and pay if it's a podcast they're passionate enough to support.

It's coming across that you would like to see a model similar to Medium or Substack for audio, which Truefans could totally become, but then it ceases to be podcasting. RSS is the open internet.

I guess it comes down to different motivation for different folks. I suspect most of us on this instance are working on this because it's a passion project, not because we're trying to generate revenue, so our goals are different.

I'm perfectly happy working with these guys making a v4v concert that I suspect less than 200 people saw, because it was fun for me, not because I was going to make any money. The $40 I did make was bonus, but not why I did it.

I understand and respect that, and I hope you're able to figure out how to turn it into a business. I think TrueFans is great looking app, and you're very innovative with the features you're adding. I wish I had some suggestions, but I'm not sure how to make podcasting profitable as an app when there's so many free options available and RSS is by it's very essence free to access.

Honestly, I think it's going to take Podcasters more than anything. They have the audience, and if they can do an ad read for a Casper mattress, and say "Subscribe on Apple, Spotify, or wherever you get your podcasts" then they can say "Look guys, you're my audience, and you're my support system, and I hate reading Casper mattress ads to you. Go check out Truefans, they've made it easy for you to support me. Follow the link in the show notes for a tutorial"

I'm not sure if it's possible at this point. I wish there was an easy way to program sending fiat instead of sats, I wish there was an easy way to use Lightning, but none of this is easy right now. I've pondered how can we make this easier myself. I've even demonstrated to people in person, and most of them look at me like I'm doing open heart surgery. I wish I had better answers, but for now, I think the tools are still too complicated for most.

Throwing this out there for discussion.

It's there any particular reason we've all latched onto lightning as the best solution for programmable value exchange?

Are there other solutions that allow for splits (this is a non-negotiable for me) but solve the problems we're having with lightning?

I'm pretty pragmatic, so don't care what the solution is as long as it solves the problems, and since currencies can be converted, I'm not sold that BTC is the only or even best way for v4v.

I wish there was a way to remove yourself from a thread if it goes off on a tangent you're no longer interested in following, and conversely add yourself to a thread you are interested in being notified when new comments are added.

I think that's what these guys are trying to accomplish, though I'm not a big fan of the price tag. I'm a cheap-ass though.

The more I see people wanting to move away from closed garden platforms to open protocols, to more I see that RSS already solved this problem 20 years ago and we just need to find our way back to the path.

With podcast:value, and podcast:funding, the monetary support issue has largely been solved.

Does the Nostr community seem like they even care about value splits? The value splits seem so crucial to moving forward with any v4v model that isn't a simple paid like of a comment, and it's hard for me to get behind something that doesn't support value splits after being convinced of how valuable they are.

Yeah, there is an overlap. We're calling it cross-app comments, and it's using the socialInteract RSS tag.

Podverse has them in their app. https://podverse.fm/episode/dTWX_aqL- Click on the comments, and you'll see this.

Same thing with the Podcast Index page.
    https://podcastindex.org/podcast/920666

    Everything there is from AP.

One issue apps are having is how to make it easy to post comments from within the app. The displaying comments has been solved, but next is in-app replies to comments.

Is there some sort of Mastodon to NOSTR bridge?

I saw this in my NOSTR feed today.
