So I feel like I finally made a hands-on contribution to a #FreeSoftware project:
https://gitlab.archlinux.org/archlinux/packaging/packages/dillo/-/issues/3
I found out that #dillo in Arch Linux can't browse IPv6 sites as the support is not explicitly compiled in. Rather than discussing it here, I decided to go straight to the maintainer's repo with the fix.
I feel happy, even if a little silly for some reason. I never did a technical commentary like this before, and if it gets merged it's my first real contribution to a project!
This above the sea, panoramic and wide view photo of San Francisco was taken in 1906...
...with a freaking KITE!! :O
Whoa, is my mail provider down?
Hmm, maybe a problem with claws-mail package.
Wait, mutt has this problem too! What's going on?
...
15min later, the answer:
Just another case of "It was DNS™"

Thank you fediverse and the @tildetown crew for enabling me to "remain online" even when I can't self-host my stuff!

Seriously, how could one *not* love the @ question bot that Erkan Yilmaz hosted in the fediverse aeons ago?
It was light-years ahead of any of this AI bullshit they put up nowadays.
I wonder if there is such thing as #fedinostalgia. But one can view an archive of sorts in the wayback machine:

I may be late to the party, but here it is: my #OldComputerChallenge experience
https://kzimmermann.0x.no/articles/2024_old_computer_challenge.html
It felt good to do it again since my last one in 2021. I tried to do something a little different this time and it was surprisingly pleasant. I have an optimistic view that this old computer will survive a lot more years!
57 on my #100DaysToOffload challenge as well
Updating my last #FreeBSD machine 'round here to 14.1-RELEASE-p1!
Using the ethernet cable does make things much, much nicer, too.
FYI #Devuan Unstable users: I've successfully upgraded the distribution in spite of bug #1073244 (/usr/bin/console file conflict) being present. Turns out I didn't have conserver-client installed so ruby-xml (used by APT) was free to do its thing. If you do have both packages, though, might want to think twice about it.

This is yet another one of the long and tired side-effects concerning usrmerge and Devuan...

HELLLLL NAAWWWWW this is some bullshit.... I caught my #ISP throttling the connection to the FRICKING #FREEBSD PKG SERVER!
For real, speeds were like 8.3kbps in a fiber connection. And then I confirmed the BS by adding a VPN on top and running `pkg upgrade` again. Boom, back to 1~2Mbps again. Caught 'em Red. fucking. handed.
Why even do this shit? For real. It's just fucking HTTP!
So did G**gle finally cucked #invidious completely at last? Every video I try to see now is like this, in every instance 😠
Resizing an encrypted swap partition to ensure my laptop can hibernate properly surely was the most tense computer thing I've did in the past 5 years or so...
Holy crap, I almost forgot! Happy #PiDay fedi! :D
@hakan_geijer I see, thanks for the suggestions! Sadly, I don't see my device in there to try 😓 dunno if it was too cheap or unusual to raise enough interest for someone to port (Galaxy A9)
Guess I'll have see in the dusted bin of really old ones if any of them are supported.
@hakan_geijer how do you suggest I start? PostmarketOS?
@hakan_geijer I'm still gathering out courage to flash a custom ROM on my older devices out of my use. Sooo wanna liberate them the same way I do with older laptops!
@faxmodem well, *lightweight* GUIs are pretty great! If i couldn't use or set up Mutt for something, my next go-tos would be #Sylpheed or #clawsmail
What I don't like (and definitely don't *need*) is that every graphical application in my computer becomes a web page complete with #Javascript.
@kaia hah, called it! Everyone knows it's that legend Barry Basparov
