So somebody riced the #GRUB screen of the computer to look like an arcade game console because... well, you can?
That's one whole dimension more for #unixporn fans, I guess! :D

"Tech support. How may I help you?"
*grub-install instead of update, actually.
Finally getting my #Artix install back up for an update (I haven't booted it in over a month). I think that by this point all that #GRUB drama should've been resolved... right?
The Arch announcement post states that if anything, a grub-update command followed by grub-makeconfig right after install should fix anything that gets messed up in the installation. Anyone successfully did it already?
Weirdly enough, after a `pkg upgrade` #FreeBSD can't play #gzdoom anymore. gzdoom complains about requiring SDL2.0.6 but the FreeBSD pkg itself requires the current 2.0 version that is available with it.
Could this be a time to compile from source instead?
Good #tzag everyone! I am still amazed every time that I use my #raspberrypi to do my computing. This tiny guy can be a desktop if you choose the power of #FreeSoftware!
It's still #caturday somewhere in the globe.
Have this big guy with a "matter of fact" attitude
Look, I get that #TorBrowser is trying to be more user friendly when presenting errors, but I'm sorry: this message reeks of those creepy #CloudFlare "YO THIS SITE CAN'T BE REACHED BUT HEY, IT AIN'T OUR FAULT ALRIGHT???" error pages.
It made my skin crawl from thinking a certain site became cloudflared until I realized this was a local error message in my browser.
Whoa, #TIL that Phil Zimmermann, creator of #PGP (and one of inspirations of my handle, btw), made a Reddit AMA just a few days ago:
https://teddit.net/r/IAmA/comments/x3b3gj/im_phil_zimmermann_and_i_created_pgp_the_most/
Some very interesting insights there. I like this one:
"PGP was designed for the audience at that time, which was a population of power users - everyone who used email in 1991 was by definition a power user."
There you have it: PGP is user-friendly... depending on who you call the user!
@PublicLewdness yeah, I feel it would be wrong in principles to boot trisquel with secure boot. But good choice nonetheless if you don't have this constraint of mine!
Trying out OpenBSD, back to FreeBSD https://tilde.town/~kzimmermann/updates/20220905_0944.html
What OS would you put in a bug-out drive? https://tilde.town/~kzimmermann/updates/20220907_1247.html
#TIL there is a flavor of #PuppyLinux based on vanilla #Debian (not the traditional Ubuntu), released with weekly updates:
https://vanilla-dpup.github.io/
Wow, how did I miss that? It looks like exactly how I wanted to have Puppy working before I started playing with Alpine on a USB. 100% will try it out this evening when I'm back from work.
Apparently, it even works with apt!
Aight, it's Friday night in a geek household. I haven't really downloaded anything to watch so so what can I do instead?
Install #OpenBSD 7.1, of course.
So here's the deal: over the next few toots I'll be live-documenting my adventures of installing (or trying to) OpenBSD for the first time on a bare metal laptop. Let's see how far I can go in a night!
#TIL that the #Debian team has put some considerable effort to deploying federated services: https://wiki.debian.org/Teams/DebianSocial
Nice initiative! Especially for the instances of services you don't see quite often around like Matrix, Jitsi, Plume.
Long life the #fediverse!
