I grew up there and I would put NM cuisine up against any other - there are regional differences within the state as well. Albuquerque food is not the same as Las Cruces, or Santa Fe, or Taos. And the Pueblo food adds à-whole-nother layer.
Yes. And political journalism is far too often conducted through the methods/lens of sports journalism - focused on strategies, points, wins, losses, and opponents. Political journalism's primary role, in my view, should be on governance: actions taken, policies proposed and their implications for future actions, costs of proposals or actions, etc. Who fucking cares why they do what they do...it is what they do that matters.
Not in this case. They have already revoked student visa's for 4700 students across the country. Even through he is likely to end up losing in court eventually, the immediate impact on the students could be very disruptive as there are mechanisms to implement his whim.
That is not how I read it. Their verbiage seems to say (essentially) - “if you upload somebody else’s work and we discover it is covered by a proper PRO, we’ll take money and pay them.”
I could be wrong on this, but that essential language has been part of Bandcamp’s TOS since the beginning, iirc.
It comes from his amazing book "The Jewel Hinged Jaw" which is a series of essays about writing, sf, and language. Worth digging up if you are interested in the topic. It was out of print for a long time, but has been reissued recently, I believe.
Interesting take on what makes a novel science fictional - makes me think of Philip K. Dick’s early manuscript “Voices From The Street” - where the HiFi equipment (new in the 50s when the book was written) is the technology of focus. Not marketed as sci-fi for sure, but it fits the framing here.
A key to this the fact that “journalism” has shifted the focus of political narratives (which they’ve always largely created) from “government/leadership” to “popularity/perception.” Both have always been part of the story, but in this century the coverage of government has diminished in comparison to popularity. These stories on Biden’s age don’t ever talk about the consequences of electing an old man. How would him slowing down change what his administration is doing? How would it affect the country? How does that compare to the effects of electing a slightly younger, also cognitively declining fascist? This is particularly true when it comes to something Mekka has pointed out repeatedly - Harris. One of the reasons for Biden being the head of the ticket is the dubious assumption that Harris is unelectable - a narrative the media has created. Racism and misogyny run deep in this country, but I recall Harris being on the ticket as one of the reasons it was acceptable to vote for the old white guy in 2020. That’s the perception story. The governing story is that Harris is part of a successful team that can continue with the current policy agenda that has been largely successful (yes there is lots to criticize, lots).
“The more you understand about US consumer toy culture, contemporary US sexism, and the Barbie toy... the better the Barbie movie was for you. Men who knew more about sexism and the Barbie toy, enjoyed the movie more.👍🏿”
Just listened to a long information heavy rant from my wife about how terrible the movie was if you understand anything about sexism and the history of feminism. So, I am guessing this trend (if true) peaks at a pretty low-level of knowledge about sexism and then reverses.
When a man undertakes to create something, he establishes a new heaven, as it were, and from it the work that he desires to create flows into him. For such is the immensity of man that he is greater than heaven and earth - Philipus Aureolus Paracelsus (1493 - 1541)Drummer-composer And a scientist (neurodevelopmental differences) and professor too (he/him - they/them - whichever works for you) trans-rights are human rights. https://bsky.app/profile/icastico.c.im.ap.brid.gy
