Watching a review of chefs doing a ‘blind’ tasting of different instant ramens, and someone says ‘this tastes healthy in a not so good way’ I knew right away it was the Trader Joe’s one (most of their ‘east Asian’ stuff is like ‘let’s make something in the shape of the thing and take out all the flavor!’ Except the gimbap, which is pretty decent)

Adrianna Tan (skinnylatte@hachyderm.io)'s status on Monday, 23-Dec-2024 08:13:36 JST Adrianna Tan I know people have a classist thing about instant ramen, but there’s a whole world of instant ramen ranging from meh to ‘probably better than a fancy ramen in your small city’

Chris Petrilli (petrillic@hachyderm.io)'s status on Monday, 23-Dec-2024 08:16:07 JST Chris Petrilli @skinnylatte I feel like this is the same people who think "expensive Chinese food" is an oxymoron. Or freak out at a taco that costs more than $1. If all you've had is cup-o-noodles, your judgement is off.

Adrianna Tan (skinnylatte@hachyderm.io)'s status on Monday, 23-Dec-2024 08:34:55 JST Adrianna Tan @icastico it’s a thing now that many well known ramen joints in japan make their own instant ramen. The noodles and soup are functionally similar.
The noodles are straighter and better quality and the soup is a dehydrated version of the thing they serve.
This is one (Ichiran Hakata instant ramen), you can get it from many places
https://japanese-products.blog/2019/08/22/ichiran-instant-hakata-tonkotsu-ramen/
You can even get a tasting box of diff ramens from Japan like that

Adrianna Tan (skinnylatte@hachyderm.io)'s status on Monday, 23-Dec-2024 08:35:46 JST Adrianna Tan @icastico and this instant Lanzhou ramen is better than most places that do Chinese beef noodles in SF
The soup is the same as what they have in Lanzhou, boiled down into a concentrate you just add water to it. The noodles are springy.
