Chris Petrilli (petrillic@hachyderm.io)'s status on Saturday, 04-Jan-2025 03:01:29 JST Chris Petrilli @skinnylatte @bentoh that was my worry. This is a gov't wide problem where they don't really understand how the private sector comp model has changed in tech. I remember being invited to apply for a GS-15, which would have been a pretty ugly pay cut because of the stock side of things.

Chris Petrilli (petrillic@hachyderm.io)'s status on Wednesday, 01-Jan-2025 02:03:59 JST Chris Petrilli @skinnylatte to me it needs to be reformed so that those leveraging the process have protections that are equivalent to citizens. And a clear path to citizenship. Today it’s structured to give overwhelming power to the employer, and that leads to consistent abuse. The solution to that is to strip the employer’s power so that some fairness is restored.
This country desperately needs much more immigration not less.

Chris Petrilli (petrillic@hachyderm.io)'s status on Monday, 23-Dec-2024 08:16:07 JST Chris Petrilli @skinnylatte I feel like this is the same people who think "expensive Chinese food" is an oxymoron. Or freak out at a taco that costs more than $1. If all you've had is cup-o-noodles, your judgement is off.

Oh and those fried shallots you can get at Asian groceries.

Chris Petrilli (petrillic@hachyderm.io)'s status on Monday, 02-Dec-2024 10:07:32 JST Chris Petrilli @skinnylatte @JessTheUnstill when my partner was still able to live at home we had salads with every meal. With a vinaigrette like this. A cabinet full of vinegars and oils and a few other condiments gets you a wide variety. And they take 2m to whip up.
Also, when you’re eating them every day you go through a huge amount of veg and can stock a diverse selection.

Chris Petrilli (petrillic@hachyderm.io)'s status on Monday, 02-Dec-2024 04:51:31 JST Chris Petrilli @skinnylatte I think there’s also some amount of othering to allow people to maintain the illusion that they too are not one catastrophe away from being unhoused. To face that would require addressing our economic system’s structural problems. Much of the US (all countries but it seems especially prevalent here) depends on a deep delusional state being maintained.
