Can someone recommend a fantasy or sci-fi series that I can get into? I don’t always read those genres (I have a condition where I can’t visualize images) but recently I liked The Expanse, various Sanderson books, Shadow and Bone etc. I prefer well built worlds with good writing

@skinnylatte I highly recommend The murderbot diaries, by Martha Wells, if you haven't read it already. I've been advised to get this serie here on the Fediverse, and I am super fond of it since then

@skinnylatte I'm the same and fantasy does not really pull me in with in novel form.

      But what I have enjoyed:
      - The First Law trilogy
      - Wizard's First Rule

@skinnylatte What a list - will be taking notes! I really recommend both the Hainish an Earthsea Cycles by Ursula K. LeGuin. Especially Earthsea. I read the series during Covid and they are now on my small list of books I regret born reading sooner. A rare fantasy series with a Taoist foundation. If you want to read the Hainish Cycle, there is a collection of the first three novels called "Worlds of Exile and Illusion." She brought an anthropologists eye to her writing.

@skinnylatte I have an odd suggestion - "Hav" by Jan Morris. A travel book set in a fictional Mediterranean city-state with details so rich people started calling travel agencies for tickets. It is two novellas and you can them in one volume. The first is great but the second is a gut punch. Both are one of the best allegories of modernity I have ever read.

I am not sure how these books would be with your condition but they have really awesome ideas and stories!

@skinnylatte I greatly enjoyed John Scalzi's Old Man's War and David vanDyke's Plaque Wars.
There was recently a post requesting the best SciFi books. I'll try to find it, it had like 300 replies and some summaries of those.
