I stopped using Twitter a year ago, but kept the account active for reasons. Today, I decided I didn't care about those reasons any more.

One thing I did enjoy about my time in France that I don't get much here in the US, and certainly not in Bradford, Ohio, is turning a random street corner and then suddenly, CATHEDRAL.
I have returned home, and despite the... recent unpleasantness involving my homeland, I am delighted to be home and not having to go anywhere further than I can drive for the next two months. Time to finish a novel, catch up on sleep and eat my weight in cheese, not necessarily in that order.
Over on Whatever today I write on how I think the next four years will go for me economically (fine but could be better), whether my experience will be applicable to other creators (probably not) and what you should do to help your favorite creators survive what's coming:
Hello, my lovely Mastodon pals. If you are in the US and age 18 or above, I hope you
A) are voting today, if you have not voted already
B) are voting for the folks who have NOT explicitly planning to crash the economy, hug dictators, and go after their domestic “enemies” with the army
C) (Which is to say, vote Harris/Walz, please and thank you)
For the rest of y’all, sorry it’s gonna be all about us for a bit. You know how we are. Here’s a flower picture to make up for it.
Over on Whatever, I've done what the owners of the Washington Post and the Los Angeles Times would not: Endorsed Kamala Harris for President of the United States. Come read why I think she's not only the right choice, but the only choice, for president this year:

Oh, hello! Say, if you're a US voter, do you know when early voting begins in your state? It's possible you may already be able to vote! Have you made a voting plan for yourself? Have you encouraged eligible voters around you to vote? This year above all others, it matters. Have a plan! Vote!

Please enjoy this kitten who was visiting us today (no, actually visiting, this one has a human already).
Just passed 1,000 posts here on Mastodon. Hey, thank you all for being here and putting up with me occasionally. I have fun here, and appreciate that this service exists in the world.
The ceiling of the Kansas City airport is a whole vibe
Dear Mastodon:
Have you seen a picture of a marmoset today? Well, now you have. You're welcome!
Because I am a clumsy-ass dork, I recently dropped my Macbook from about a height of two feet while it was open. It didn't experience any loss of function or any major damage, but the lid so bent in such a way that now one edge is open a millimeter or two even when fully closed. This bugs me and also invites dust intrusion and further damage. Solution: a Big Damn Rubber Band, which clamps it down nicely. Stupid of me to have dropped it, but at least I'm smart enough to have an easy fix.
Hello from the dog days of August in Ohio.
Apropos to recent events in the literary world, I have written a long essay on why a) you should not idolize creative people, b) come to think of it, you shouldn't idolize anyone, c) holy fuck you really should not idolize ME.

I wrote a thing about AI, and also, "AI."
I've written a longish take on the last couple of days, including about how what looked like (and initially was) Democratic panic over Biden morphed somewhere along the way into a rope-a-dope strategy against the GOP, and whether Harris can win (spoiler: yup):

Here's a hefty stack of New books and ARCs that have come to the Scalzi Compound. What here gives you the grabby hands?
The heatwave broke and it's a nice day for a walk in the woods.
(Also Spoiler: We'll just make more)
So, hey, over on Whatever today I have something important to say about "AI" art and my book covers, and why moving forward it'll be an actual contract point that my book covers have to be human-created.
