@skinnylatte one of my grad school friends made it several years in America before she discovered that a “cup” was a specific unit of measurement and not, like, any cup you happened to have around
Her baking improved substantially afterwards.

I'd just like to remind everyone that each week approximately 23% of Americans take acetaminophen, so if it really caused autism, we'd have a way more functional train system in this country.
@skinnylatte One of my friends matched with someone on Tinder, realized she was a lesbian, and decided to start a social justice CSA with him instead.
This really isn't relevant to anything, I just wanted to share that story.
@skinnylatte @awoodsnet @irene there also used to be a gay bar named Purr, which Irene almost went to because she thought it was a cat cafe
Why does the app for my cats' litter box now show the cats' astrological signs? Who asked for this?
Muffin is one of @elba's Unwellness Calicos. Today is Muffin's birthday. Please wish Muffin (via @elba) a happy birthday.
This is what pull requests used to look like.
(The last sentence is particularly remarkable!)
the main problem with not having an office (except at home) is that I have nowhere to display this amazing certificate

There is a stonemason in my neighborhood who has many street signs that are strangely enthusiastic about chimneys, and I finally looked him up and discovered that in his spare time he likes to dress up in an orca costume and chase the ferries (and pick up litter on the water), and also has a pet pot-bellied pig, and I love everything about this.

"'The point of the white people’s meal is to learn what it feels like to be dead, but I’ve taken two bites and it was so bad it made me realise how alive I am,' wrote one poster who tried a serving of plain crackers, cheese and ham."
@skinnylatte I was just thinking yesterday about how when @irene was in school the kids would bully her for eating Chinese food instead of cold sandwiches, but when I was in school half my class was Asian so they would bully me for eating a Jarlsberg Lite cheese sandwich and in a sense this was worse because *they were right*
@skinnylatte yeah, they have a big Somali immigrant community. also a Hmong one.
@skinnylatte cannot wait to hear about your trip to a place where ketchup is considered spicy!
I knew #cats could have their blood pressure taken, but it only just occurred me to today to look up photos of it, and they are even better than I imagined.
Not only do they have tiny blood pressure cuffs, they can take their pressure either on their legs or on their TAILS‽
You may not like it but this is what peak coziness looks like.
Actually, you should like it. I don’t know why you wouldn’t like it.
We get bagels from our CSA every week and lately they have been coming sealed in multiple layers of bags, and when I asked about it…
“We heard Miso steals bagels.”
@jessekelber @synec @jay yep, those were going to be my questions too!
@synec @jessekelber @jay hmm, I haven't really been to Belltown/downtown much in a while, and a bunch of the places I knew there have closed. But let's see...
- Shiro's was the canonical Seattle sushi restaurant, at least until Shiro moved to start Sushi Kashiba in Pioneer Square. Both are good choices but I'm not sure how hard it is to get a reservation today.
- Wa'z is an excellent fancy kaiseki restaurant. Definitely need reservations but I don't think they're too hard to get right now.
- Lola is a solid vaguely Mediterranean restaurant from one of Seattle's ~3 restaurateurs
- Matt's in the Market is in the most touristy spot in Seattle and has a great view, and somehow despite that also has really good food
- there's some good hot pot restaurants in Westlake - Hai Di Lao is a Sichuanese chain (perhaps a lame suggestion since there's at least one in the Bay Area), and Qiao Lin is another Sichuan-style one that I haven't tried but recommended by @skinnylatte
