      @dan @jessekelber @jay @skinnylatte And the winner was... Taylor Shellfish. Really good oysters and moqueca. Plus, one of the staff had on a Dinosaur Jr. t-shirt, and we talked indie rock for a while. I was deservedly shamed for owning a Jazzmaster and not playing it much.

      @synec @jessekelber @jay @skinnylatte if you take the light rail to the International District, there's a bunch of good places really close to the train station:

      - Chengdu Memory is my current favorite hot pot restaurant (it feels so authentic I actually caught myself trying not to drink the water)

      - Fort St. George is an izakaya that also serves Japanese comfort food like hamburger steaks (open late, and where everyone working at the other Japanese restaurants goes for a drink)

      - Happy Lamb is a Mongolian hot pot chain from China

      - there's another Dough Zone there too

      - and probably something good in the food court of the Uwajimaya, but I don't remember what's there nowadays

      @synec @jessekelber @jay @skinnylatte oh, and since you mentioned shellfish, Taylor Shellfish is the place I usually go for oysters. There's a couple different locations but the Pioneer Square, Lower Queen Anne, and Capitol Hill locations are probably reasonably convenient depending on where exactly you are staying.

      (worth checking the menus for specific locations; they all have raw bars but IIRC some of them have more cooked foods than others)

      @synec @jessekelber @jay hmm, I haven't really been to Belltown/downtown much in a while, and a bunch of the places I knew there have closed. But let's see...

      - Shiro's was the canonical Seattle sushi restaurant, at least until Shiro moved to start Sushi Kashiba in Pioneer Square. Both are good choices but I'm not sure how hard it is to get a reservation today.

      - Wa'z is an excellent fancy kaiseki restaurant. Definitely need reservations but I don't think they're too hard to get right now.

      - Lola is a solid vaguely Mediterranean restaurant from one of Seattle's ~3 restaurateurs

      - Matt's in the Market is in the most touristy spot in Seattle and has a great view, and somehow despite that also has really good food

      - there's some good hot pot restaurants in Westlake - Hai Di Lao is a Sichuanese chain (perhaps a lame suggestion since there's at least one in the Bay Area), and Qiao Lin is another Sichuan-style one that I haven't tried but recommended by @skinnylatte

      @dan @jessekelber @jay I don't know the neighborhoods too well, but I think I'll be downtown/Belltown-ish. I'll have no car, so accessible by public transportation is a must. I do like seafood! I'll be dining by myself (assuming I can't rope any coworkers into joining me), so non-family style is a better bet.

      @synec @jay @dan

      Let's see...what part of town are you going to be in? Got a favorite cuisine?

      Or do you just want a run-down of current-favorite random great food spots?
