"Every company eventually faces the temptation to harvest what it built. The ones that resist it are the ones that last."
That's a truth bomb right there.

@lanodan @foone Ah yes, I forgot about that. The holders pulled a nasty trick where they waited for it to be adopted widely by the early internet then suddenly flipped around and demanded everyone pay up once it was already well entrenched.
@lanodan @foone I supposed LZW compression was invented in 1978, so theoretically they could have used it.
Would be interesting to see what the speed vs space tradeoff would have looked like for your average 1987 PC though.

I can think of @404mediaco, @Bellingcat and @Defector
@Jvmguy @Catvalente Some recently put it as (roughly paraphrasing, because I can't remember their exact words) - "The thing that makes LLMs seem intelligent isn't the technology, it's peoples ability to see faces in toast".
@aud @hacks4pancakes Thanks for the block recommendation.

@mbpaz @GossiTheDog Unfortunately, a large part of the press cares more about keeping their access to influential people than they do about honest reporting.
So they play nice, instead of doing their job.
@molly0xfff Question - Is "One Nation" in that diagram the Australian Political Party of that name, or another entity?
@gantua @dalias @kkarhan @eniko I suppose SBCs are the only real use case for SD cards that isn't just infrequently writing photos or files, so it could just be an inappropriate workload problem.
@julian @mekkaokereke @ohmu One thing to note is that not everyone wants to be included in a starter pack - I've seen a few people who were unhappy about being included in Bluesky starter packs.
Not sure how to handle the consent side of things, but it bears thinking about.
@clacke @tehabe @danwentzel I'd be inclined to call that a distinction without a difference.
The point was made and clearly understood. Quibbling about semantics is just pointless pedantry.
@tehabe @danwentzel We need a name for posts like this - both technically correct and yet completely missing the point.
Yes - they don't live in a 15 minute city. But most people aren't aware enough to notice that if *their* travel and commute is within 15 minutes, and politicians are cynical enough to exploit that.
Thus the need to remind people that 15 minute city needs to apply to more than just them.
Just a random dude who posts about politics, technology and TTRPGs. I also paint minis, which I share on my blog and pixelfed.Lets break the silos and rewild the internet! #auspol, #tabletopgames, #miniaturepainting and #numenera.
