@augieray My (autistic) son told kids who were heckling him that he had contagious autism. That totally shut them down.
This is the same kid who asked a nurse giving him a vaccination if this was his upgrade to Autism 2.0 🤦♀️.

@selzero @courtcan I had the issue with the Tooth Fairy. A friend’s kid got R50 for each tooth - there are 20 of the suckers in there dude! What are you thinking!?!
My kids got R5 per tooth. I told the kids it was franchised out by postal code so we had a different fairy owning our section to our friends’ fairy.
“We should move”, my kid muttered. -

@Giliell @ricci I I worked as a nursery school teacher about 15 yrs ago during a measles outbreak. One of 3 year olds ended up in intensive care. His Mom asked the doctor why his vaccinations did not protect him, and the answer
"The vaccination is why he survived." -

@Remittancegirl @the_roamer Not just in the UK. And public messaging / media bears huge responsibility for this. So many people in NL think COVID is over, and most believe that it's just a mild cold now. There is absolutely no acknowledgement that we as a system are deliberately breaking any chance of a long term, physically and mentally healthy adult society.

@jeffowski Exactly. An older woman I was speaking to was upset because she "would probably have been trans if it had been pushed on her" since she always felt more boyish than girlish but "in her day, you were just a tomboy!"
But I was a total tomboy as a young girl. I remember being the only mechanic at a party where everyone else was a princess! But I always knew I was a girl doing boyish things. I would not have chosen to be a boy I just chose not to let my gender define my actions. 1/2

@jeffowski So I think she has forced herself into a life she would not have chosen, if she had had more information. And this resistance, this anger and danger she perceives, is really a reaction to the injustice of not having the chance herself.
I wonder how many older people feel cheated, and that magnifies their anger and fear. 2/2

@FlashMobOfOne @Aleenaa @bookstodon @books Of those, I'd go with A Good Girl's Guide to Murder. It is definitely more YA then adult, but unexpectedly dark with some great character development and twists.
I usually buy from Science Fiction / Fantasy though-I borrowed the above book from a young friend.

@tokyo_0 I used to be horrified at "the destruction of this important heritage" and yes, my heart aches when important cultural or historic things are destroyed or damaged.
But if we don't act on climate change, if we don't urgently protect natural habitats and reverse our disastrous fossil fuel habits, then no heritage of any kind will be left to protect anyway.
I don't want to live in a global climate apocalypse dystopia. (I'm aware some already live it).

@inthehands So much this! At the high school I teach at, if you complain about workload / suffer stress / miss deadlines etc, the general administrative response is to allocate you to an online course on "efficient time management".
Thus adding yet another burden on your time. It's the budgeting in poverty problem - my problem is not how I budget my time, it's the fact that I need more time!(Not in my department, though. My HOD understands this.)

@HauntedOwlbear Mine is I'm-not-an-old-hippie tie-dye. I wear my shirts until they fall apart and I've probably had this one for 30 years. I have no band T-shirts, so this is what you get.

@BethanyBlack @StevenSaus But did you start your explanation with the words "Fun fact: ..." ?
My son has done this for years. His classmates are very used to his "fun facts", and know to brace themselves 🤦♀️
Fun fact: they're usually quite gruesome and not at all fun 🤪
