@david_chisnall@theorangetheme@davidgerard I reckon I am a competent developer - never the fastest - but I wrote clean code and always had fewer bugs to fix than others. HOWEVER - this is not a promotable characteristic. One job in particular prioritized shipping over correctness, and I just can't. So I always looked like the doofus who was too slow. I haven't coded in industry for a few years now, but I imagine I would look even slower compared to todays vibe coders. 😒
Last week I unwrapped my Jizo sculpture from @moonrabbit is sitting on my desk now, giving me serene bird-friend vibes and making me really, really happy that I went for it and bought him.
@Fragglemuppet That's really interesting. I notice my husband has itchy feet in a place after about 3 years. Mine is longer - I'm starting to feel it now after 5 years in the same city, but it doesn't manifest as a depression / apathy. Just a niggle. I hope now that you've identified the cause you can at least compartmentalise it so it doesn't swamp other glimmers of joy. Sending love.
@thomasfuchs If you do audio therapy for sensory integration dysfunction, you HAVE to have a CD player, because the compression for digital audio takes out the non-standard frequencies needed for the audio therapy to be useful.
So my gen Z kiddo used to walk around preschool with a CD walkman. They were the coolest retro kid on the block 😂
@gemlog I was thinking about something very similar to this today. I am pretty much an atheist in that I don't believe in any overarching conscious higher power.
But much of my life is based on faith - in other people, in the potential of the kids I have taught, in the drive for goodness and self-actualisation of all kids, in the future.
Faith and love.
I'm not big on hope, strangely. Faith yes, love, yes, hope - not so much.
@D_J_Nathanson This is true for all bullies. If your boss / coworker uses intimidation or threats, if it's safe to do so, file a complaint. Don't do it as revenge or hoping that it magically stops long-established and -enabled behaviour, but do it as part of building a portfolio of evidence against them so that later on those in authority cannot say they did not know.
Make life as inconvenient as possible for those who choose to use power to be violent or oppressive to others. (Grammar edit)
@simon_brooke@thibaultmol There is a town close to me that runs a "sensory reduced" day when the fun fair is in town. I think they play no loud music and reduce the flashing lights, while keeping the rides and games running. Such a good idea.
@augieray My (autistic) son told kids who were heckling him that he had contagious autism. That totally shut them down. This is the same kid who asked a nurse giving him a vaccination if this was his upgrade to Autism 2.0 🤦♀️.
@selzero@courtcan I had the issue with the Tooth Fairy. A friend’s kid got R50 for each tooth - there are 20 of the suckers in there dude! What are you thinking!?! My kids got R5 per tooth. I told the kids it was franchised out by postal code so we had a different fairy owning our section to our friends’ fairy. “We should move”, my kid muttered.
