   When we tell children that Santa will distribute presents based on how "good" or "bad" they are, then the kids witness that presents are distributed based on which economic situation they happen to have been born into, what are we really teaching kids about "good" and "bad".

     @selzero A friend of mine recently theorized that no matter the original purpose of giving children gifts at Christmas, it has become a way for parents who aren't millionaires to pretend to their kids that we're not poor.

     I've been thinking about that a lot.

     @selzero @courtcan I had the issue with the Tooth Fairy. A friend’s kid got R50 for each tooth - there are 20 of the suckers in there dude! What are you thinking!?!
     My kids got R5 per tooth. I told the kids it was franchised out by postal code so we had a different fairy owning our section to our friends’ fairy.
     “We should move”, my kid muttered.
