@2d @GreenFire @underpantsgnome @zleap I'd like to do away with the electoral college, also. That said, if you look around the globe where there are multiple parties, all they do is form coalition governments that align largely to right and left. All democracies have to serve large populations with diverse opinions. No one gets everything they want. We need to stop acting like children and pretending that there is a more perfect version, when we have had two centuries of success with democracy.
If Republicans are going to accuse Biden of weaponizing the Justice system, then:
1) They better damn well have better evidence than an independent grand jury indicted Trump, Trump got a fair trial, and an independent jury found him guilty on all charges, and
2) They better damn well reject the Project 2025 framework and Trump's promises to weaponize the Justice system.
Every accusation is a confession for the GOP.
The GOP is simply reprehensible. I don't understand how any citizen can vote for any GOP candidate. The entire party is claiming the Trump fraud trial was a political hit job. The "law and order" party wants neither. (1/6)
The GOP could use this as an opportunity to rid themselves of all the MAGA baggage, and instead, they are unifying to lie to Americans about a fair trial. They're doing so to support a convicted felon, serial adulterer, and sex abuser who lied about cheating on his wife with a porn star, encouraged a violent insurrection, and calls the people arrested for violently attacking Capitol cops "hostages." (3/6)
An independent grand jury heard the evidence and said there was cause to believe a crime was committed, so they indicted Trump. A fair trial was held where Trump could call witnesses, including himself (and, as always, after saying he couldn't wait to testify and griping about the gag order, the coward was not willing to take the stand.) Then, an independent jury of Trump's peers (including one who said Truth Social was their ONLY source of news) found him guilty on all 34 counts. (2/6)
I continue to opt out of all conferences, including my own employer's, to avoid a higher-risk environment for #COVID19. But, I feel guilty doing so. I feel as if I'm not supporting our business like others. Yet today, with our big annual conference five days away, I spoke with two people who will be at the conference who today are just 'getting the flu,' and I'm reminded of why I made the decision not to attend.
The response... 😂
As always, there is a constant flow of new #COVID19 research studies indicating repeated infections are a rising risk for Long COVID and can damage brains, hearts, immune systems and other organs. My spreadsheet now contains more than 610 studies. (3/5)
I still expect the US increase to be modest and mitigated by more outdoor summer activities. That said, some nations in the Northern Hemisphere are seeing a more substantial rise in #COVID19. Nations like Singapore and Spain have reported an increase in infections and hospitalizations. Spain has reintroduced mandatory masks in hospitals and health centres, and the Singapore Ministry of Health has issued an advisory to wear masks. (2/5)
A couple of weeks ago, I noted that new #COVID19 variants were rising and were likely to cause a modest rise in US infections this spring and summer. It appears this has now started, but thus far only in the West region. Viral activity is High in Utah and Wyoming and Moderate in Montana and Nevada. Most states are still low and minimal (including Wisconsin), but we can expect infection risks to rise in the month ahead. (1/5)
We can continue to pretend it's 2019, ignore the risks from #COVID19 infections that known, and see what happens with our fourth or fifth infection in the years ahead. Or, we can take some caution, avoid crowds, opt for outdoor activities, and wear masks when we can. The choice is yours. So are the consequences. (4/5)
STUDY notes that the severity of an infectious disease depends on the level of the infectious dose: The higher the dose, the more serious the infection outcomes. "The dose of exposure is determined by human behavior, environmental conditions and mitigation strategies, such as indoor versus outdoor exposure, indoor crowding, indoor air ventilation and physical distancing." Even if you get #COVID19, being cautious (masks, lower crowds, shorter times, better air) matter!

I understand the frustration with Biden over Gaza. But you have two choices in November. If you care about Palestinians and Gaza & cannot vote FOR Biden, then vote AGAINST the party that wants to ...
Deport pro-Palestinian protesters (https://www.haaretz.com/us-news/2024-05-13/ty-article/.premium/trump-ramps-up-campus-protests-over-israel-as-a-key-campaign-issue-against-biden/0000018f-71b4-d7ad-abdf-f5befa1a0000)
Allow Israel to use nuclear weapons in Gaza (https://www.independent.co.uk/news/world/americas/us-politics/lindsey-graham-gaza-israel-hiroshima-b2544204.html)
Force Biden to stop trying to limit Israel's aggression (https://www.nytimes.com/2024/05/16/us/politics/house-bill-reverse-israel-arms-pause.html)
If you care about Palestinians, you want to help Biden win, not Trump.
My new post on LinkedIn about a #COVID19 court case. An appellate court in Colorado found that COVID can be occupational disease that is compensable under the state's Workers Comp laws. The employer and its insurance company appealed the judgement and lost. This is a reminder that employers may urge you to take risks, but they may not stand behind you if you get ill. https://www.linkedin.com/posts/augieray_covid-19-can-be-occupational-disease-colorado-activity-7194390536126885890-4VF9?utm_source=share&utm_medium=member_desktop
@FLGLchicago @evan Well, this place needs people like you and me to speak sense. I hope you stay.
@evan @Amoshias And there will be more war if Trump is elected.
@evan Thanks. I'd suggest you stop worrying so much about "blame" and instead worry about how to make the entire world--including Gaza--safer. The way to do so is NOT to help the guy Netanyahu wants to win.
@evan I find that glib. Biden does not "love war." And I suspect you're mature and smart enough to understand he's between a rock and a hard place over support for Israel and Gaza. So, in the end, the choice is yours: You can be really, really angry at Biden and not vote, or you can do more to help the world and make Gaza safer by voting for Biden. Elections are not love affairs--you're selecting between flawed choices, not getting everything you want in a candidate.
"I'm so angry at Biden over Isreal/Gaza that I'm going to help Trump destroy democracy, weaponize the Justice system, send millions to deportation camps, lower the taxes on the wealthy and shift the burden to the middle class, cut Social Security, track and prosecute women having abortions, pardon the people who violently attacked Capitol police, dismantle NATO, help Russia, AND ON TOP OF ALL THAT do even more harm to Palestinians" is a take--it's just a really awful take, IMO.
