I had kids trying to hold me personally responsible for the crimes of the Catholic Church when I was 14 because I had an obvious Catholic coded last name. It was not that long ago either (about 25 years ago).

    @HebrideanHecate @KeepTakingTheSoma I was trying to explain a little bit to my sister how class is viewed differently in the UK to the US and she just couldn’t get it. I don’t know why it’s so beyond so many Americans because we have class prejudices too, we just think it’s acceptable to hate the poor and a majority of American churches seem to be founded on the idea that poor people deserve to be poor because God made them so.

    @ChasingWaterfalls I’ve had people think I don’t have adhd because my house is relatively organized (for a house with four children 6 and under in it). But it’s only well organized because I can’t manage my anxiety and sensory meltdowns otherwise. I also spend most of my time organizing things to the point it’s my main hobby. Knowing what I have to do to manage my adhd doesn’t mean I don’t have it basically. I expend a lot of energy managing adhd while raising children.

Actually I just stay out of adhd activism entirely after I got chewed out by a self diagnosed woman for saying something she thought was revolutionary for adhd people was overstimulating for me, an adhd dyslexic person and made it harder to read (it was a way of typing where you randomly capitalize some letters but not others).
