   I imagine taking the hit to buy an impractical 60,000 dollar virtue signal just to have the meta change before the payments are up, and suddenly I'm having my car which I bought to save the world vandalized.
   
   How can you guys claim to have empathy for people who aren't like you when you don't even seem to have empathy for the people who are exactly like you?

     "Reduce, Reuse, Recycle" used to be the mantra, and it was presented in order of importance. Reduction is number one, reuse of what you do need to use is number two, and finally, recycling what can't be reused is the least effective last resort. Nowadays, the mantra has just become "Recycle, Recycle, Recycle" - and by "Recycle", we usually mean "ship it off to a landfill somewhere out of sight".

     Hybrids are the reasonable, albeit unnecessary, compromise.
     
     Realistically, climate change is bullshit and obsessing over fuel efficiency has only gotten us to marginal returns that much faster.

     @pepsi_man @Zettour @hakui @sj_zero Hybrids may be unnecessary, but if you think about it, it's kind of awesome to have the extra ponies when you need it from electric. The Prius is one of the best designed cars from a mechanical and systematic standpoint. It's basically a masterpiece of engineering, and I say that knowing full well that the people who often drive them are insufferable. I'd rather see hybrids used for performance boost rather than just relying on turbos which we know will likely shorten the lifespan of an aluminum block engine.

     They're neat for sure, but whatever they offer isn't worth the added complexity.
     
     Modern ICE vehicles are already difficult to work on for the average Joe, and now they want to add hybrid drive shenanigans?
     
     We're heading backwards in terms of car ownership. Eventually they'll be so expensive to own and maintain that even a Corolla is unaffordable for anyone that doesn't make a surgeon's wage.

     @brimshae @sj_zero @Zettour @hakui Either TBH. The reason they do it for trains is the torque and general efficiency. Cars can do the same. Higher torque at the front wheels and higher efficiency at the rear, for example. I like the individual wheel motor designs.

     Back in the 60s they tried to make a car that can use a turbine engine. Turbines have some really cool features that could make them more efficient than piston engines, and way fewer moving parts so they could last way longer, but they also don't really want to be doing what cars do, spinning up and down constantly to deal with the ups and downs of driving.
     
     Seems like a big use case for generator electric, to be able to focus on building your turbine generator to be simple, reliable, and efficient.
     
     Of course one problem with all this is if they build cars that last, nobody will need a new car every 5 years...
     
     I have a set of PIAA silicone windshield wipers on my car. They've been on my car since February 2020 and they're still going strong. Anyone who has ever owned a car in a place that gets sun and snow in the same year will recognize that's an absolutely absurd amount of time to have the same set of windshield wipers. Nobody's trying to sell me a set of these, because replacing wiper blades every year is a useful business model. A turbine engine could potentially last for a million miles and only has a few parts.

     It can get through the gates and trees easily. The half ton is a bitch to get around in and is gigantic. I use that for towing and for when I go into town with my wife, but the kei truck is everything I need out of a non-towing truck aside from the damn laws that keep me off the interstate. In many cases the interstate is the only bridge that doesn't include an hour long detour across a river.
