Does anybody have an opinion about bookshop.org?

What's the least bad place to buy ebooks today? (Apart from direct from the author when possible)

I feel like something we're missing is a mobile-first interface to programming

It should be possible to make a simple program on your phone in the time it takes to make and post a tiktok

Jury nullification in the United States
In the United States, jury nullification occurs when a jury in a criminal case reaches a verdict contrary to the weight of evidence, sometimes because of a disagreement with the relevant law. It has its origins in colonial America under British law. The American jury draws its power of nullification from its right to render a general verdict in criminal trials, the inability of criminal courts to direct a verdict no matter how strong the evidence, the Fifth Amendment's Double Jeopardy Clause, which prohibits the appeal of an acquittal, and the fact that jurors cannot be punished for the verdict they return. In practice The tradition of jury nullification in the United States has its roots in the British legal system, specifically in a 1670 English case where Quakers were acquitted by a jury of violating a law that permitted religious assemblies only under the Church of England. In 1735, journalist John Peter Zenger was acquitted in New York by a jury that nullified a law making it a crime to criticize public officials. Later, colonial juries nullified the Navigation Acts, which would have forced all trade with the colonies to pass through...

Tech ceo: I built this technology and this company by myself from the ground up, I'm just Built Different 💪

Author: I know my name is on this short story, but I barely did anything; if anyone should get the credit, it's my editors, my proofreaders, my cat, people who riffed on my jokes on social media, that one guy who always cuts in front of me at the coffeeshop, the couple two doors down who has really loud sex, migratory waterfowl, and my third-grade teacher 😳

Daylight Saving Time has really helped me understand the global reaction to the climate catastrophe

Here's a thing that would cost us literally nothing to remove, would make our lives easier if we removed it, that makes us all feel terrible, costs billions of dollars in lost productivity, and literally kills our children now … and we just … can't do it.

In light of that, it's no wonder that we refuse to make a concerted, drastic change whose effects will be felt decades in the future
