We had an IT support contractor who was the odds-on favorite to win the follow-on contract (as incumbents typically are).

One day (thanks to a whistleblower) we discovered they were an insider threat: we had another contract up for bid that they had no experience in, but they wanted to compete for. So they tasked a few people with copying our copies of *that* incumbent's files, so they could copy the processes and look like they knew what they were doing.

No one wanted this contractor to have the follow-on IT support contract, but under federal acquisition regulations we had to use the rubric, and they kept ticking box after box. Finally, I pointed out that the contract requires notifying us within 48 hours of detecting an intrusion.

"Logically, they detected their own intrusion immediately upon performing the intrusion. They didn't 'notify' us until we called them on it a week later. Therefore, they have demonstrated that they cannot satisfy at least one part of the contract."

Did I spend far too much time on this table just to get to the punchline at the bottom for something I'll spend perhaps 20 seconds on during lecture?
Yes, yes I did.

Do I regret it?
No, I do not.

Or, perhaps: ignore being clicked/swiped for at least the first half-second of occupying a particular part of the screen.

Yes, I've dismissed severe weather notifications when I meant to dismiss an email. And other notifications that I couldn't see through my finger. But I've also clicked on too many wrong links on webpages that like to rearrange themselves.

The waitress invited me to kiss her grits, but I couldn't find grits on the menu.

@SwiftOnSecurity Our IT department was not amused when I clicked on the "report phishing" button for one of their legitimate emails. There were even less amused when when I pointed out all the ways that it resembled a phishing attempt.

@futurebird That depends on two things:

When time is frozen, am I able to see when I'm staying perfectly still? If so, does everything appear white?

If the answers are "yes" and "no" then, I'm going to start by experimenting with progressively "longer" periods of timefreeze, to see if objects get hotter the longer time is frozen.

If there's no risk of melting the universe, then I'm going to start by studying the current physics body of knowledge. Then I'm going to get to work on fixing that body of knowledge.

Explanation:
If photons are also "frozen" then the only way for me to see is to move so that my eyeballs strike photons. If I can see, then photons keep moving.

If everything appears white, then a plausible explanation is that there are no new photos emitted, but everything perfectly reflects all photons.

If photons move and some photons are absorbed, then there MUST be new photons being emitted. (And if objects can't shed heat, then absorbing photons will make them hot.)

@nixCraft We're always worrying about lossy compression. Is this lossy expansion?
