@lain@meowski "in their function as capitalists" they fund the resources (land, buildings, tools equipment) and inputs (raw materials, transportation, packaging, labor). Even in worker owned coops, these things must be provided for before workers can make the widgets.
I know you know this, but neglecting to say it provides fuel to those who aren't aware that "let's kill the bosses and owners" is a recipe for mass starvation.
@feld People staying home when they're sick is a good thing. I recently saw an article where bosses were unhappy that younger employees were using their sick leave. As an older employee who has worked in 1000+ person buildings where a substantial fraction were sick at the same time, I say yes. If you have paid sick time, stay home when you know you're sick. That's what it is for. Use it.
@Moon "The meaningful sense" would be group members having had different experiences and life paths, so that people come at problems from differing directions. They could also have different ancestries and plumbing and sexualities, but that isn't going to be the focus. The thing about that kind of diversity is that it also means there's friction over most decisions and over solutions to most problems, so people need to learn conflict resolution strategies almost from the beginning.
For some reason, they de-canonicalized most of the previous universe. I haven't watched all of their new stuff, but I honestly enjoyed the cartoon Star Wars Rebels. And I was pleasantly surprised to find The Mandalorian to be enjoyable.
Prior to last year, I'd only seen the movies, so I can't compare the quality of the previous universe, but the two shows I watched are better than nearly all of the Star Wars movies.
@NEETzsche@alex I understand that. And unless you choose something and commit, the list grows monthly.
I'm going to have to commit to something. I can't learn every framework and language, and I'm planning to dump $EMPLOYER in the first half of next year, even if I wind up working at Home Depot.
Is it hard to eat meat substitutes that often? I used to occasionally get a meatless burger, but sometimes "pretty close" isn't enough. I am not in any danger of becoming vegan, but I'd definitely favor more restaurants serving more vegan foods that don't pretend to be meat-based.
High schools and colleges want current hardware so current software runs on them. Their students won't get hired if the version of MSWord they're familiar with is from the WinXP days.
This is something that @jeffcliff should see. He's pretty convinced that SARS-CoV-2 was raw zoonosis at the open marketplace and not zoonosis or human engineering at the research labs.
