@feld @Moon This wouldn't be a problem if they hired people that could write a compelling story. Especially when Star Wars already had an extended universe which is criminally underused for the crap they came up with for example.

@sim @lnxw37b2 @feld the old extended universe had a bunch of crap but a bunch of gold too and they easily could have pillaged it years of good movie stories instead of the crap they invented.

For some reason, they de-canonicalized most of the previous universe. I haven't watched all of their new stuff, but I honestly enjoyed the cartoon Star Wars Rebels. And I was pleasantly surprised to find The Mandalorian to be enjoyable.

Prior to last year, I'd only seen the movies, so I can't compare the quality of the previous universe, but the two shows I watched are better than nearly all of the Star Wars movies.

@lnxw37b2 @Moon @feld I don't understand their reasoning behind de-canonising the extended universe when they couldn't even replace it with something better in the main films. Or make good on the nostalgia baiting they were using to get us to watch them. I don't know where they were even going with the characters.

They did bring in some characters from Chuck Wendig's books written a few years ago. Specifically Cobb Vanth

        Star Wars: Aftermath trilogy
Star Wars: Aftermath is a trilogy of Star Wars science fiction novels by American author Chuck Wendig. Set soon after the events of the 1983 film Return of the Jedi, the series explores the time period between that film and 2015's The Force Awakens. The trilogy began in 2015 with Aftermath, which was followed by the sequels Aftermath: Life Debt (2016) and Aftermath: Empire's End (2017). Aftermath is one of the projects in "Journey to Star Wars: The Force Awakens", a 2015 Star Wars publishing initiative to connect The Force Awakens with previous film installments. The Aftermath trilogy features the characters Wedge Antilles, an X-wing fighter pilot from the original Star Wars film trilogy, and Imperial Admiral Rae Sloane, introduced as a captain in John Jackson Miller's 2014 novel A New Dawn. Wendig also introduces several new characters, including ex-Rebel Alliance pilot Norra Wexley, her teenage son Temmin "Snap" Wexley, Temmin's rebuilt B1 battle droid Mister Bones, the Zabrak bounty hunter Jas Emari, and the Imperial...

@sim @Moon @feld @lnxw37b2 this is literally the reason btw. They had to hire the guy that wrote Thrawn as a "consultant" just so they could throw all of his ideas out anyway.

@sim @feld @Moon @lnxw37b2 that's simple. If they used the extended canon they would have to actually pay the writers.

@triodug @feld@bikshed.party @sim @lnxw37b2 @Moon I really liked the old "Fate of the Jedi Series" from the now non-canon "Legacy Universe"
