People posting these articles like "Research shows COVID does this really weird thing to cells in your brain!" and shouting "omg this is the worst, why does everyone dismiss COVID as a threat, we're all gonna die"
Ok, it's not the worst. We know things that are much worse. And that study only existed because billions are being pumped into COVID research. It's very likely other viruses do the same, but we don't pump billions into their research so we'll never know.
Just because we threw a ton of money at COVID and have new interesting data does not mean COVID is uniquely dangerous in this way.

@feld I am too lazy to verify but I read that pfizer updated their guidelines admitting it has an elevated rate of causing heart problems in teenagers in the first several weeks

@feld People staying home when they're sick is a good thing. I recently saw an article where bosses were unhappy that younger employees were using their sick leave. As an older employee who has worked in 1000+ person buildings where a substantial fraction were sick at the same time, I say yes. If you have paid sick time, stay home when you know you're sick. That's what it is for. Use it.
