@e_urq I'm glad the WaPo ran this piece but the mainstream media is directly responsible for how deeply misinformed the public is about our lives and about trans kids.
@e_urq (Seriously, the rock-solid certainty of the commenters who were profoundly ignorant of the realities of trans kids. Like the one who confidently asserted that trans kids were at no real risk of suicide, they were just throwing a tantrum for not getting their way.)
Our descendants will shake their heads when they read the history of this pandemic. Millions of lives thrown under the bus because people couldnโt cope with the idea of a little inconvenience to save lives.
@helge Oh, got it. I don't know, but considering they announced starting to test it the same day they announced they were making Threads available in the EU, and given the EU's Digital Markets Act, my suspicion is itโs the easiest way for them to satisfy the regulatory requirement of being interoperable.
I'm sure everyone is tired of discussing Threads and Meta (I know I am), but I just want to say I find any predictions of what Meta is going to do in the future that don't include discussion of the effects of the EU's Digital Markets Act unpersuasive. All of these companies are under intense scrutiny now, and not just by the EU, so I think that a prediction of what they're going to do based on the crap they got away with 10-15 years ago is not the slam dunk folks think it is.
This is your periodic reminder that Mastodon is grievously underfunded and understaffed and before we all see more of the goodies on https://joinmastodon.org/roadmap being delivered in a timely way the project will need way more staffing and money. These include quote posts, reply controls, blocklist subscriptions, markdown, encrypted DMs, etc.
I'm shocked, shocked that we won't be able to keep warming to 1.5โ. Who could have seen that coming.
Business as usual will result in warming of around 3.4โ. My bet is we'll wind up closer to that than to 1.5โ, due to the fact that shortsighted, ignorant, selfish, greedy people run the world. I don't know if civilization can survive that kind of climate. I guess we'll find out the hard way.
@emilygorcenski I don't know what version of iOS you're using, but turning on Advanced Data Protection in iCloud settings will encrypt more of the data stored in iCloud so only authorized devices on the account can decrypt it.
This should happen everywhere. There is no place for shareholders or profit in public utilities: it serves no public purpose, and it leads to perverse incentives.
It's been clear this has been the goal since the beginning. They want to ban transition entirely, not just medical care. They want to force every trans person back in the closet. And all LGBT people for that matter.
@inthehands I had to drop my Guardian subscription for their terrible coverage of trans people. The US Guardian is much better but I don't know a way to support the US Guardian but not the UK Guardian.
