There is another article listing community efforts, but it has no links to URL’s, so not very helpful.

every day there’s so much bad news that I want to tell you about a bike “race” I lost this morning.
I was cycling home from an errand when I came upon this guy. We raced a short distance and he beat me!
Head down, eyes straight ahead—he was very focused, his legs were moving so fast! I didn’t mind losing at all. We high-fived at the end.
Important detail: he was a preschooler on a balance bike, his mom was thrilled that I played along. 🤣🚲
@evan It’s tricky, isn’t it?
@evan I’ve been reading other responses and I don’t know if we’re talking net assets, or income per year.
A joint income of $100K-150K/year allows a very comfortable life, but even modest houses are worth $$$ because the market has gone up.
I haven’t seen anyone talk about long-term care yet, which can easily cost $100K/year, and you might need it for several years. EEK!
Do we assume the sale of a house to afford elder care?
what if social security/medicare disappears?
@kottke Excellent!
“It is abundantly clear that as long as John Roberts has his majority, nothing the left of center in this country wants to do is safe or stable. Everything can be killed by the court. We can have democracy and self-government in this country or we can have the Supreme Court as it exists, but we cannot have both.”
I hear mumblings about a draft, so maybe today’s a good day to revisit this little gem:
“The exact sentence of Project 2025's "Mandate for Leadership 2025: The Conservative Promise" document, reads: "Improve military recruiters' access to secondary schools and **require completion of the Armed Services Vocational Aptitude Battery — the military entrance examination — by all students in schools that receive federal funding.**"
@AwesomeSheep48 @ascentale @bikenite Do you know about Oulu, Finland? The town has a strict code about maintaining bike routes in the winter. I can only dream of such luxuries…
@fesshole a lightweight knitted hat does wonders.
“ma in her kerchief and I in my cap had just settled down for a long winter’s nap”—I think it used to be more common to wear a cap of some sort to bed to help keep you warm
giant leaf boat
@WarnerCrocker Gorgeous!
I go past this house frequently, today it has a sign out front. But I’ve decided to not feel outrage. Instead I’m going to write a “dear neighbor” letter, along the lines of
“thank you for reminding all of us that we need to stop the epidemic of gun violence. Common sense gun reforms are at the top of nearly everyone’s list, because we’re all sick of gun violence. None of us should worry about being gunned down every time we are in a crowd.”
@Urban_Hermit @roknrol I think it was clear long before he ran for president the first time that he was a terrible person.
the Central Park five? Birtherism? cheating on taxes? Defrauding charities?
He never had a good track record
@hellomiakoda @artemis I’m sorry you had that horrible experience, but I would definitely react the way you did.
@WarnerCrocker WaPo paywall, etc, but I bet you anything that it’s got nothing to do with trains running on time, and everything to do with Miller and Hegseth getting screamed at last time they walked through Union station.
…..and a group of vets are holding a sit-in until the troops are withdrawn from DC….
@msbellows @lyndamerry484 wait—I thought VP was a super important job that required one to make important policies happen!
oops, that expectation is only if you’re a woman of color, otherwise, vacay every other week, amirite?
@ai6yr Some kind of paywall so I can only read part of the article, but does it say WHY these cameras are being put in parking lots?
Surely there aren’t that many stolen cars ….must be something else. Like just generally tracking movements of everyone in the US???
@ai6yr did I miss something? I thought it said the cameras are in parking lots. Are they in the stores as well?
@benroyce reposting this here as it’s relevant
@404mediaco are they literally spying on people in Pentagon bathrooms?
I know it’s a silly question to ask at this point, but is this even remotely legal?
@WarnerCrocker Gorgeous! reminds me of fireworks…
