I agree with you, Warner. The only way to limit your data feed now, is not to have any (no phone, no online presence at all, cash only transactions).
But I still enjoy imagining screwing up American big data, as much as possible. These supremely selfish billionaires could be doing incredible things to advance humanity, health, peace, culture....
But no: nothing but consumption and greed. I'll consider myself fortunate, if I can see them burn.
So that's worse than that same data being in Musk's/Zuckerberg's hands? I doubt that. I'd rather be screwed over by the Chinese, than by arrogant billionaires who claim to be US citizens.
I still believe in the rule of law. I no longer have faith in the "America" I was taught about growing up: that is very well dead and gone (if it ever even existed).
Iโm celebrating today by remembering the life and achievements of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Thatโs the most important thing happening in America today, IMHO.
1. Reduce your apps to the minimum required 2. Turn off location services, unless you're using that app 3. Turn off notifications 4. Turn off Bluetooth 5. Turn off Siri in ALL instances 6. Disable any app "reporting" features, including back to Apple 7. Use Firefox as your default browser 8. Remove all Google & Microsoft apps
...
Off the top of my head: I'm sure others will have a lot to add.
No streaming services here, except MLB.tv (Cubs games). It doesn't take long to get used to no advertising. I watch YouTube videos without ads for free using Firefox's browser with a couple extensions added. Any movies, etc. I want to watch, I buy used DVDs on eBay. The billionaires can yell all day all they want: I'm not listening, and not hearing a thing. ๐คทโ๏ธ
I've held for quite a while that the urge to hoard wealth is a prime indicator of psychosis/mental illness. It's not normal, and it shouldn't be encouraged.
@WarnerCrocker Well, that sucks. We (Pennsylvanians) lost a good man, and an excellent, experienced Senator. I hope Dave McCormick displays some redeeming qualities.
@WarnerCrocker Probably too late, but I'd replace them with modern flash water heaters. Less bulk, less likely to leak over time, and energy/cost savings from not keeping gallons of water hot all the time.
I had one installed years ago at my house in SC, and loved it. Nobody gets a cold shower, no matter how busy the bathroom gets. Also plenty of hot water, even if the dishwasher or a load of laundry on hot is going. ๐
@WarnerCrocker We've had an amazingly dry, and rather warm Fall here in NEPA. I need to get the last of the leaves cleaned up from my yard this week, before the snow comes.
@parismarx Remember when he was the asshole in charge of Microsoft, and creating a monopoly? Yeah: I still havenโt forgotten that, and nothing he does will change that perception.
