@darnell I notice you didn’t address the other issues I mentioned about access.

@darnell @Jirikiha @klausfiend @lauren I didn’t claim otherwise, but you were claiming all. Counter example disproved that.

@darnell @Jirikiha @klausfiend @lauren About 7000 babies were not registered by their mothers from 1999 to 2022 and either abandoned or given up. Others in religious sects/cults don't necessarily register them because if they're not planning to send them to school, why bother indicating their existence and bringing the interest of authorities?

@darnell @SuperMoosie @lauren Possibly, but it's one more barrier to cross.
For people whose resources are limited. If you're homeless and living on the street how incentivised are you to pay $20 to maybe get a birth certificate to get an ID? -

@darnell @SuperMoosie @lauren Really and truly free, not just 'free if you pay $$ for all the documents you need to prove you are who you say you are so we can give you this ID' and available at more places than a DMV which is only open at inconvenient hours and impossible to reach via public transport.

@bodhipaksa @williampietri @llanciawn @Wen I am afraid I have to disagree with you there. He has neither the warmth or the depth for that.

@burnoutqueen @SunflowerUnruh So you do hold Democrats to a higher standard. Basically you don't think republicans are people? Which says a lot about you.

@fu @orladediez Getting rid of the rules doesn't make it fair. It makes it unfair in the direction of the already monied.

@fu @orladediez They can live in it all they like. But once they start treating it like a business, well then there are rules and regulations to keep things fair.

@JorgeStolfi @arichtman @mcc @modulux Oh they don't get to choose. Australia you put your preferences in your choice of order. The person who comes last has their second choices redistributed, and then the next last gets theirs redistributed, and so forth and so on. Until someone gets over 50%. We have the House and the Senate that we vote on. So two different papers. One is fairly short because it's just your area. The other is for your State. The candidate can suggest order, but not control.

@arichtman @JorgeStolfi @mcc @modulux Preferential or ranked choice voting yes. We also have mandatory voting (with early voting and sometimes other forms for people that can't get in on the day). Queues to vote are usually less than half an hour, and there's often someone nearby selling democracy sausages inna bun or cake. It's not perfect. Humans are still prone to right wing fearmongering, but it tends to less extremism.

@jikodesu Admittedly this is made easier by not drinking alcohol.
