Search engines basically suck today. As recently as two years ago, it was pretty easy to find even the most obscure references after refining your search terms. (I mostly searched for vintage car, motorcycle, political, and rock music references)

These days it’s pathetic. You get 20 of the most recent uses of any key search term. I stopped using Google because of it, but now Duck Duck Go is just as lame.

@ariaflame @Joe_Hill @josh0 You can turn it off (and all the other shit) appending ?udm=14 to the Google query URL. And you can replace your default browser search function to do this all the time.

@Joe_Hill @josh0 At least it's easier to turn off the AI options in DDG. And it's basically backed up by bing anyway

OMG! TIL there's a way to add back the long-since-removed capability to add your own custom search engines to Firefox. In about:config, add a new boolean key browser.urlbar.update2.engineAliasRefresh = true. Then the "Add" button is available in search preferences (put %s where the query term goes).
