A man was disappeared for opposing the US government.
This is maga fascism in action.
A Palestinian in Gaza has infinitely more courage than any US soldier.
Palestinians shouldn't need courage to survive. They should be playing with their kids and celebrating the spring, not fearing when their homes will be destroyed by US bombs or having to deal with Israeli occupying soldiers.
Nevertheless, the Palestinians stay true to themselves and do everything they can to stay in their homes, all while the world's superpowers have turned their backs on them.
They have a word for it.
That word is "sumud". In English, it approximately means "steadfastness".
The Palestinians deserve to live. They deserve justice. They deserve the same freedom I deserve.
And one last sidenote:
The powerful figures that want to destroy trans people in the West like me are the same exact folks who are spearheading the genocide of Palestinian people.
The same right wing antisemites and racists who want a White Supremacist, Christofascist United States are the same people who declare their unconditional support for the destruction of Palestine and its replacement with a ultra-Zionist, theocratic-fascist regime from the River to the Sea.
Right leaning person, thinking they have owned me: "you just want free stuff, you commie"
What's so bad about making essential resources available in a way that gives more people access? Don't we WANT people to enjoy nice things in this society?
I think the real question is, "why do you want to keep things like healthcare, education, and housing behind a paywall, you bozo?"
The people of Gaza have no legal protections whatsoever. They have no peaceful route to solve their problems.
When they protest, Israeli snipers shoot them in the head. There are no elections in Gaza. The territory is under a constant siege. A good chunk of things in Gaza are controlled by Israel, such as the population registry and resources going into the territory.
So can you entirely blame them when they turn to violence?
When peaceful change is made impossible, violent revolution is made inevitable.
Liberals said this all the time surrounding Luigi Mangione, but they forget it for Palestine.
When a white man fighting the occupation of their land by the Russians or the Germans shouts to the world "give me liberty or give me death!", the white world applauds him.
When a nonwhite man fighting the occupation of his country by American and European interests shouts to the world "give me liberty or give me death", the white world gives the occupier the bullets and guns required to shoot him.
All of the people who blindly condemn all violence on the part of the Palestinian militants and guerillas are suspiciously silent on the violence inflicted upon them by the Western governments.
When the Palestinians peacefully rebelled against the occupation in the 1980s, Yitzhak Rabin told the Israeli army to break their bones.
When a Christian majority Palestinian village refused to pay taxes without representation, the residents had their property stolen from them and they were taken hostage as "administrative detainees".
When the Gazans marched peacefully in 2018 and 2019 for the right of return, they were brutally crushed by the Israeli occupying army.
In right wing parlance, I am an anti Israel ideologue.
I am against the state of Israel because I think it is wrong to build a country on the principle that only one ethnoreligion is accepted as worthy of full citizenship. Such a principle is indistinguishable from the viewpoint of the Fascist Italians and the Nazi Germans, and it is ridiculous to act like this isn't the case.
This is not to diminish the suffering of Jews. To the contrary, I am motivated exactly by opposition to the historical drivers of Jewish suffering: empire and ethnoreligious nationalism.
It is hypocritical to celebrate the story of the Exodus, of freedom, while backing the horrific occupation and subjugation of the Palestinians.
Many Jewish intellectuals, from the earliest days of Zionism, have foresaw its most fascistic tendencies and sought to prevent the very thing that is happening today: the gradual liquidation of an entire people.
Even Albert Einstein, the much vaunted left-Zionist, noticed the latent racism and fascism that was present in the Zionist politics of his day.
Sometimes, a right winger is so blindingly ignorant that I can't help but laugh.
For example, when Zionist propagandists talk about how everything is Hamas.
Things Zionists have referred to as Hamas:
Babies
Universities
Schools
A calendar with the days of the week on it
Hospitals
Toddlers
Doctors
Teachers
Joe Biden, The former president of the United States (who is actually a Zionist lmao)
The United Nations
Student protestors
South Africa
It would actually be indistinguishable from a comedic skit if it wasn't such a sad and craven attempt to justify an actual genocide and the repression of massive protests against said genocide.
If you support Zionism, you personally might not be a bad person. This goes double for Jewish folks, as Jewish institutions promote a very one sided view of Palestine, and the Holocaust leaves a justified and genuine void of fear and uncertainty that Zionism promises to fill. I'm also not going to be as harsh when it comes to left wing Israelis, because obviously the Israeli state will promote Zionism. It's their literal state ideology. People tend to absorb the ideology of their government.
If you still support Zionism when you understand its history of abuses against Palestinian people, then you almost definitely are a bad person. If you support Zionism to support your Messianic apocalypse fantasy, you are a bad person and also probably an antisemite.
(Sidenote: The rhetoric I sometimes hear about "normalization", while it definitely applies to some people, it is often misplaced. Rabin and the liberal Zionists who cultishly worship the peace process are definitely normalizers who can't be trusted. But not every left wing Israeli is like that, and not every instance of cooperation between Palestinians and Israelis is normalization.)
Zionism in practice is a horrific ideology, and the current implementation of Zionism in the West Bank and Gaza is comparable to European fascism IMHO. Anyone paying attention should see that it's fascistic to kill off an entire people because of racism and a desire for living space.
Anyone who is truly aware of the horrors the Palestinians are subjected to will definitely notice the brutality of the IDF and their routine violations of human dignity.
"The Most Moral Army" isn't going to put a kid in a military prison after demolishing his family's home with a bulldozer.
It took me a while to realize that Zionism was bad, but seeing the Zionists collectively rally around an actual genocide (that's still ongoing!) and seeing all of the worst people on earth (Donald Trump and his ghoulish minions especially) adopt Israel as their cause celebre really did it for me.
Zionism does not cause all of the world's problems. The notion is absolutely ridiculous.
What I will say is that Zionism is an obvious result of all the world's problems. Capitalist and ultranationalist greed drives people towards genocidal actions.
Many people invert the causes and effects of Zionism.
As an example, people spread the borderline conspiratorial canard of "the United States of Israel", citing the bipartisan consensus surrounding Zionist ideology in the United States. I understand why people think this. However, this consensus is not because of Israel's enormous power over the US. We could nuke them to oblivion in a heartbeat.
It is because Israeli colonialism is completely compatible with the policies of the US government and the dictates of capital. It doesn't matter that Israel has killed American citizens, attacked American military ships, and literally violates US law on a daily basis.
US support is a necessary condition of the continuation of the Zionist project. Israel isn't brainwashing the US or whatever. This is just the true colors of US foreign policy.
What makes Zionism wrong is the same thing as what makes it wrong for the United States to kill the indigenous people of North America and become the economic dictators of the global south.
Also, the prevalence of racism among US politicians facilitates their embrace of Zionism, as the Zionist caricature of the Palestinians as savages and terrorists is deeply compatible with the kind of anti-Arab racism seen in the US.
