It's about slaves being taught to internalise the whips, so the whips are always there inside their heads.

An interesting episode. :D
It seems to come from a very W.E.I.R.D. perspective. Well meant, but without the sense of history.
Housing co-operatives have been a thing for centuries, not just decades. :D
An interesting contrast to this:

Vinay's an engineer, and an interview with him would make a great episode. :D

I didn't know the pricing to compare.
Why is it so expensive?
Could the judge hit TrustPoint One with a data preservation court order to prevent evidence being deleted?

Billy Smith (billysmith@social.coop)'s status on Wednesday, 16-Aug-2023 20:31:29 JST Billy Smith The technical side is not where the problem is.
It's the certification from the insurance company that's offering protection against malpractice, or being sued, that's the expensive part.
They have stringent requirements, in a similar way to HIPPA records insurance requirements.

Billy Smith (billysmith@social.coop)'s status on Friday, 07-Apr-2023 03:29:06 JST Billy Smith I had to explain this to a programmer who hadn't used a pillar drill before.
I said, "We should use strings for everything! All data should be stored in String format!"
Reply came, "You can't do that! There are times when strings are useful, and there are times when they are the worst possible tool to use."
I looked at the drill bits, then showed them the difference in results on scrap material... :D
No matter how brilliant you are in one field, you are a novice in many others. :D

Billy Smith (billysmith@social.coop)'s status on Friday, 07-Apr-2023 03:29:02 JST Billy Smith I'm coming at things from a hardware design perspective.
All hardware designs are compromises with physical reality.
Configuration switches mean that the hardware can be used for more than one purpose, which increases the number of tasks that the hardware can be used for.
You don't use wood bits for drilling steel... :D.

Billy Smith (billysmith@social.coop)'s status on Thursday, 08-Dec-2022 07:30:15 JST Billy Smith That's great! :D
It's good to know that a software company can still turn a profit without screwing it's users. :D
Please don't make the same mistakes caused by Makerbot selling out to Stratasys, and screwing over the Thingiverse community.
Also, remember that you and the founders won't be at that company forever, so you may not be the people doing the screw-overs, but unless you directly address this now, your browser won't get the traction that it could get.

Please change the Dark Pattern approach.
It isn't worthy of your ideals. :D

Billy Smith (billysmith@social.coop)'s status on Thursday, 08-Dec-2022 07:30:11 JST Billy Smith The basic principles:

A larger breakdown:

For example, the sign-in difficulties shown above:
https://social.coop/@atomicpoet@mastodon.social/109473890149969038
They may just be related to a design issue, but they can also be attributed to potential bait'n'switch tactics.
( Yes, i did read the T&C's as well as the Privacy Policy, but those include the right for them to be changed unilaterally by your company. )

It'll be gratis, right until you have started relying upon their service, and that's when they'll start charging the users.
Another.com were using this business model in 1998.
Free ad-supported email/webmail, but after you had been using the service for 30-36 months, they would start charging you.
During one London Meet-up, i was talking with one of the tech's from Another.com, who told me that this was entirely deliberate.
