Anyone have any leads on a retailer of acorn flour in Canada? Like, we have so many oak trees, and I know it was a traditional ingredient for people here. It seems kinda bonkers that the only non-American retailer that I can find is Turkish.
Just a friendly request for my followers and friends to CW posts related to current US politics.
Last time Trump was elected, I ended up having a nervous breakdown because of the bad news firehose and, while I am now off of Twitter (and about to delete FB and Insta), I fear for my mental health and the mental health of countless others (esp young people) over the next few years if history repeats itself (and it looks like it will)...
In climate conversations lately I feel a bit like Arwen in her first appearance in Fellowship of the Ring, telling Frodo not to give in to the spreading evil infection of the Morgul blade as she works furiously with Aragorn and Sam to make a poultice out of kingsfoil.
Trying to tell people in the midst of climate catastrophe not to give in to despair and doomerism because it will consume their soul as I get my friends and their friends to apply plants to stop the poison... #ClimateDespair
Remember that this is super shitty but there are people out there who know how to use the "magic" of the natural world to mitigate the worst effects of #doomerism enough to get you to a safe place (might be mental, might be physical), where you can recover to the point where you *might* actually decide to tackle the crisis head-on and do the hardest thing in the world.
A bit I didn't include at the end of my #LotR / #climate analogy is that Frodo (or your average person living through #ClimateCollapse) doesn't succumb to the Morgul blade (#doomerism) but he's never the same even after bringing the Ring to Mordor.
Dude has major PTSD, has Seen Things, and can't enjoy life the way he used to. He even tells Sam that he's saved the Shire, but not for him.
Things will never be the same, even after the day has been saved. But things will *be*. And that matters.
This is not the first time I have wanted such a thing as a healthy foods snack cafe; instead of muffins they'd have like, apple slices and crackers with peanut butter; instead of croissants they'd have like, grapes or something.
I've been having fun the past couple days checking out and adding to https://beta.fallingfruit.org - an amazing resource for foragers the world over. I'm not adding my fave spots because I selfishly would like to keep them sekrit, mwahaha, and hopefully I'll get over that because seriously, there's wild food in abundance all over the city and this scarcity mindset does nobody any good.
The finalized schedule for Can*Con is out & I'm VERY excited! Sat am, I'll be a panelist for "Oceans and Coastlines of the Near Future" with Cathy Hird & Mark Robinson & modded by Clare Wall, then I'll mod the Sat pm panel "Post-Colonial Perspectives on the Post-Apocalypse" with Tiffany Morris, Suzan Palumbo, & Waubgeshig Rice
*Even though there couldn’t be a better time to be an AI expert ... I cannot help but find most of the projects that are hiring to be unexciting, unimaginative, and ultimately unlikely to go anywhere."
I am immensely proud of @RyanChartier for putting this together and getting it out there! He has a pretty unique perspective on #generativeAI since he worked in #MachineLearning for a long time.
Got a free trial from a friend to LinkedIn Premium because I was super interested and I am underemployed. Any port in a storm, right?
Having access to an entire library of courses is amazing; what is not is the fact that in my very first course on PM fundamentals the instructor casually mentions that some stakeholders would be opposed because they would lose their jobs.
Like... shouldn't that be cause for an all-team meeting to talk about how to go forward without being a shitty person?
