@thomasfuchs The difference being that moving the internet from academic toy to commercial tool had actual utility outside of tech itself. AI over the same period has both been numerous completely unrelated things (e.g. the early Lisp/AI craze), and (IMO) has vastly less opportunity to be a useful tool to actual humans doing non-tech human things.

@inthehands mountain lions *will* hunt solitary adult humans if they remain undetected (they’re mostly an ambush predator). This is a fairly common occurrence in the Sierra Nevada in California, for example. @dabertime

@thomasfuchs sounds like all we have is anecdotal evidence then.

And to be clear: I’m not some uncritical Mastodon / Fediverse fanboy. I have my own concerns about the technology. I just happen to have a lot more faith *generally* in open source/standards/protocols than I do in *any* corporation or techbro “luminary” (whether that’s someone who seems relatively harmless, like Jack Dorsey, or someone who seems seriously unhinged, like Elon Musk).

@thomasfuchs genuinely curious here: do you have evidence to support that claim? All I have to support the opposite position are my own social circles, which is clearly just anecdotal evidence (albeit for an N of one or two hundred).

@goatsarah yes! We’ve been dealing with an ant infestation this winter and I’ve been using a Borax-based product that has similar characteristics - pretty safe for us, lethal for ants. @mekkaokereke
